Rainbow Six: Vegas |x360| Early Impressions

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who thinks the story is just stupid?

A team of 3 special ops clearing all of las vegas? :/

I liked it much better in R6:Ravenshield where each mission had its own 'story' and it was 2-3 teams clearing a map. Much more tactical...and realistic - Vegas is all about action

And how many special forces uses light machine guns (rambo) in a hostage situation!?

And how many special forces carry 3 (rifle, smg and pistol) weapons on a single mission??

I wish they would do a R6:Vegas Tactical for the real rainbow six'xers :p

and a R6:ACTION! for the kids and...

I remember the 'creative director' saying how they went back to the core values of the franchise; tention, _REALISM_, close quarter battle and tactics..

__MY ASS!__

Realism isnt fun, walking into the room and getting shot once would pretty much take you out of the game, imagine how incredibly frustrating that would be having to keep redoing a section because you got hit once.

A lot of films and games arent realistic, that doesnt mean they arent fun to play, there are no such things as dinosaurs but that doesnt mean Jurassic Park is any less fun of a film because its not real.

To be fair the game is tactical, you cant just run into a room and spray bullets everywhere, i did that a few times and died lots.

You have to control your teammates, you can choose entrypoints and setup the entrace to a room by tagging terrorists for your teammates to shoot first then coordinate while you go to another entry point. If your not careful the enemy will outflank you.

Its more tactical than you give it credit for, just because theres more action doesnt mean its any less tactical.

hmm for me this is better than previous titles in the series. the action/tactic balance is OK.

the AI is generally quite dumb, tho. basically they stand there and do nothing most of the time. i find them to be good shots too but it isn't a big problem.

overall a good one.

R6Vegas is full of retards :p

When playing online, all the higher ranked players team up..

So it ends up being 7 lieteunants (or higher) on one team and 5 privates on the other team :/

I tend to shout (in text) and badmouth them :p

I know how to change rate of fire.

I was wondering what button he used to fire his weapon with..

Because I cant fire very fast in semi-automatic mode IF I use the trigger buttons

But if I use the 'normal' buttons - I can shoot very fast :shiftyninja:

Sorry for not getting back to this thread!

I stay with the default controls, so I shoot with R trigger. It is a bit slower, however, one of the guns is able to do 3 shots per squeeze, that's the one I use. I've noticed a few of the other guns can go down to 1 round and I run into the situation you have, too slow :)

BTW, I just now made it to Vegas so all my experience is in Mexico. Not sure if it matters or not. I haven't had a lot of time to play it (just like GoW, I find I need a few hours to play because it's addicting). I might experiment with some other controls to see if there's a better setup.

Saw an update was released today, when i started the game.

Was this the 'big' update or a small random fix?

And how i hate, when a server restricts a certain item in your templates you need to re-add them when you join another server.

Id like if they if they updated the filter options when you browse servers.

Id like to be able choose what map I wanna play, whatever the gametype.

Wish custom servernames was possible, like: "Streets - Pistol only"

Yeah, and English servers wern't filled with EVERYONE except English people

what do you mean? how can they tell which language you're using?

and is it just me or after the update in single player you just sometimes die suddenly for no reason?

    • This looks awesome, I will request access via Steam later this afternoon!
    • Personally, I’ve found that it’s usually worth investing in the infrastructure you don’t want to replace later, especially cabling. Running Cat6A (or better, depending on your needs) during an upgrade is relatively inexpensive compared to having to re-cable a few years down the road. For switches I try to balance current specs with realistic growth. If my budget allows it Ill choose switches with higher uplink speeds which leaves room for expanding later on, but I don’t necessarily overspend on access ports if the endpoints won’t benefit from them anytime soon. One lesson I’ve learned is that planning for scalability pays off. It’s much easier to add devices, VLANs, or higher-bandwidth workloads when your network infrastructure already supports it than to replace hardware later.  What is your budget like?
    • I hate the term, "future-proof." We saw it back in the 90's / 2000's, if not before. You cannot future-proof anything, since there is no definition of how far into the future you plan on prepping for. Best idea is to tell us what you currently have and what its use is at the moment, and we can then offer ideas about some areas that might need an upgrade and other areas that can be left alone.
    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
