Joel
Whatever you do, don't purchase an HDMI cable from a store. They're a rip off. You can find 'em online for cheap. Cables are usually waaaaaay overpriced, especially Monster and offer no improvement over no name brands. http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.a...amp;x=0&y=0 Why do people keep perpetrating this ridiculous statement? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/515214-upgrade-hdtv-yay-or-nay/page/2/#findComment-588130733 Share on other sites
jerzdawg
Why do people keep perpetrating this ridiculous statement? It could be from experience... I know when I purchased my SXRD I made the guy at Circuit City throw in the $100 Monster HDMI cable.... when i bought my upconverting dvd player I wasnt as lucky and had to buy a 2nd hdmi cable... I ended up buying a 4 ft hdmi cable for $22 and as far as picture quality is concerned I am unable to see the difference between the 2 cables.. i have only been able to test the cables on my dvd player and my hd cable box but that was enough to convince me that I shouldnt be spending $100 on a cable unless I am having trouble getting rid of money... ive read so many different things that say the same thing and the complete opposite.. so i think the only way people can say things like the above poster... is from experience.. Joel
Monster is not my issue, it's the part about how any cable can do it because it's digital. Monster DOES overprice, yes. But the cable I make in my shed is not necessarily equal to a cable from a store for $20. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 13, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted December 13, 2006 Well I found some Monster HDMI cables for 50% off their normal price on Overstock.com, and yes, they are still more expensive than your normal cables even at 50% off, but the particular cables I purchased are guaranteed for life, no questions asked, so for the extra money, and knowing they are one of the better brands, I went ahead and got them. You can buy bulk cable cheap, and fab stuff fairly easily that will trounce most anything Monster offers. It isn't rocket science at all. Now, making a high frequency(microwave) cable is another story. You can buy bulk cable cheap, and fab stuff fairly easily that will trounce most anything Monster offers. Maybe you can. But I'm talking about the companies that make the "$1 cable on eBay". Do they lovingly build each cable, or do they mass produce them using the cheapest components they can find? What I'm saying is that the base of users who claim digital is digital because it conducts the signal are full of it. I'm also saying Monster is overrated, but that doesn't mean the cheapest alternative is the best either.
