I use FireFox 2.0 and Internet Explorer 7, but I kinda start favoring more to IE, it did improve a lot since IE 6. :pinch:

*If only IE7 have Adblock and that extension where it can save all my bookmarks, I am happy!

Thanks guys for the replies. Did not know of TMP. Had it installed and yeah it's a great thing to have. I am using it with FF 1.5 and I'll soon have it installed on FF2.0.

I must say that add ons like Avant Browser for IE 6.0 and below have tabs and lots of functionality and things like restoring sections (for which many people now are using FF with TMP) for many years.

TMP is very nice to have. Great find.

I am still on dial up and when I am online I open lots of pages (10-30 at a time) then I disconnect and spend the next hour reading them. Therefore I really need a browser which can handle tabs well. I think FF 1.5 is the perfect version of FF so far.

I also think that the FF team rushed FF2.0 just because MS was about to release IE 7.0 and the FF team needed a version which ended with a rounded figure (thus FF 2.0). In fact it should have been 1.5.x.x or 1.6.

We wait for the next version of FF which shall come out sometime in March / April 2007 and hopefully it will be a worthwhile upgrade.

The tabs in FF2.0 is rather weird and difficult to navigate to. In earlier versions all the tabs were on screen while now it 'rolls' over making it difficult to navigate through.

i have moved back to FF 1.5.

Are you happy with the new tab set up in FF 2.0?

Erm... what 'roll'? Post a screenie please.

>Erm... what 'roll'? Post a screenie please.

what I meant is that in all versions of FF (before 2.0) all the tabs opened just filled one line in the browser. But as from version 2.0 less than 10 tabs fills the space and then you get a button in the extreme right and you have to press it to see the other tabs that you have opened.

This make it quite difficult to navigate through the pages as you cannot see instantly what pages you have opened and you have to constantly press the button to come to the pages you want. I find it a real chore as I open lots of pages at a time.

This is the reason why I reverted to version 1.5. But I am using TMP now and it's fine so far.

Why did you downgrade to 1.5 when it's very easy to change the default tab behavior in Firefox 2.0?

I tried FF 2.0 when I put together my new dual core system last month but found the behavioral changes rather unfamiliar when compared to FF 1.5 so I went back to using 1.5.0.8

Almost all of the behavioral changes in 2.0 can be changed to act more like 1.5.x if you so desire.

Ah yes, the power of customization. A fact that so few seem to conceptualize. Firefox 2.0 has this key element and I think people would rather take the easy route and downgrade. Where's the personal ingeniuty that allow people understand the tools they're using?

To be fair, most people aren't aware of the about:config menu, because it's not mentioned very often in the standard documentation.

Frankly I have been trying to look for ways to revert the new tab layout in FF2.0 back to the style in FF 1.5 but could not find how to do it! So, kindly explain how it can be done.

Also can someone explain how the about:config is used.

Thanks for the input.

    • Not such a great deal, Ultimate, which gives you full 5080 features is $181.99 CAD per month, that's $2183.88 per year, I can buy the 5080 for $1809.99 CAD, then it goes up to $279.99 per month after the first billing cycle. Typical cloud rental, costs more than buying the hardware.
    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
