erm, im not sure..i saw bangbang close a topic x 2 then johnS..it the guide were edited or highlights is it still removed..why remove the link?

Some people don't really want to contribute to Neowin, they just want to drive traffic to their blog or personal website.

We don't like that.

Yes, it is a blanket rule not aimed at any one member.

We have similar rules for BPN. We don't want people using BPN to drive traffic to their blog or personal website.

i hate it when people have attractive titles, and link the story to their blog.. it's a good rule that neowin has put into place, so in the future, a story thats researched doesn't have a dead link.

good idea to lock and edit topics like this.

Staff perk... not to mention he is a news poster.

I figured that, hence why I never mentioned it but I decided to post it as it was relative in a way. Plus I didn't quite mind it either as he had some good articles. *shrug*

Although, you might want to set a rule out in stone, for the guides forum, that linking to your site for the full article is unacceptable, as I don't think I see that written anywhere.

This makes sense, but at thye same time... not all of the formatting that could be done on a website can be done in a forum post. I say we keep the rule, but is it ok to add a link at the bottom of the guide with the formatting and everything?

Not that its a problem of course, just might save you guys some work if people knew that they had to copy the entire guide

I know what you mean, but the way i look at it is that there is prob the rule there some where, we just dont look too hard for it.

I have no problem with the rule, because once it was explained to me it made perfect sence..

Cool, only thing is, that when i posted in there i didnt see anything which stated this.

A link to this thread and a clarification of this rule was added to the Forum Rules for the "A Collection of Essential Guides" forum.

    • One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.
    • I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
    • I really hope the author's health is ok. Squirreling away a official backup of this software. Looks like the internet archive already cached a copy as well - https://web.archive.org/web/20...ldbit-soft.fi/software.html
    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
    • Never had a problem with TPM and started using that many years ago in Win10. Through several motherboards and OS versions, it just does what it does without complaint. My games library doesn't even know it's there. Secure boot does a lot more than support anti-cheat, as it came along long before anti-cheat software. I've used it religiously since before I started using TPM, and I always liked it for being able to nullify virus contagions that try their best to come in underneath the firmware during boot, so that the OS doesn't see them, etc. That is its purpose, imo. I'll never understand why people who elect to use another OS feel compelled to run down Windows... I guess they need to do that to feel secure about their choices? I run Windows because it supports all the software (including games) natively that I want to buy, and I've never had to run down another OS to make me feel better about it. (Although it's certainly possible to do that, of course...) Win10 is on a ventilator atm, and Win11 is very close to being free, and I finally got to stop running StartAllBack as I moved to the Experimental/Dev channel and my 26300.8553 build supports the moveable taskbar and it's running fine at the top of the screen! Finally, my last major dislike of Win11 is being rectified! So, I'm not at all surprised to see Win11's share of the Steam survey hitting 70%.
