Mac OS X 'Leopard'-related Discussion

Recommended Posts

The titlebar buttons right now are obviously a bug. It's definitely not a UI design decision. It's just like something's putting too much saturation in to them. Probably issues with the resolution independent UI.

2 choices:

1. Install the Developer Tools located on your OS X Install Discs and then use the app Icon Composer.

2. Download an app called img2icns and convert any image into a .icns file.

3. Download an app called Pixadex and convert any image into a .icns, .png, .tiff, etc. file.

Thankyou OsirisX and RDM.

Back Ontopic now. What wallpapers does the current Leopard build have? Anything worth posting here?

Here is the current wallpaper used in the latest Leopard build...

Someone posted the opening "Welcome" video on Demonoid, it's really wild. That wallpaper seems to be very closely related to it.

edit: I should note that the Demonoid version is the full resolution mov file, not a crappy YouTube version.

Yes, the new intro video is also sci-fi/space themed. Whereas Tiger had a large emphasis on Spotlight, the biggest addition to Leopard (according to Apple, anyway) is Time Machine.

Its been ages since I installed Jaguar or Panther, does anyone remember what the "Welcome" videos for those were like, or if there were any?

Thanks. I had found a copy of Panther, and I've already got the ones for Tiger and Leopard, but I'm still looking for the one for Jaguar (and any earlier releases that had a welcome video).

I couldn't find anything on YouTube related to intro videos for Cheetah, Puma or Jaguar, leading me to believe they possibly didn't have them.

You'll notice that with Panther, it just seems to feature the default Aqua wallpaper, even though a major feature was Expose.

Would you guys say it is same/better/worse than 10.4?

It really depends I'd say some things are faster. But most things run the same as 10.4

I'm sure features like cover flow and quick view wont perform as smoothly with some of the older video cards but I mean it's not like you need to view all your files in cover flow.

I agree, going on what i've seen of the recent beta and feedback i've read on the net, .5 seams to run about the same as .4 for most things, however some (safari) seam to run even faster.

However, only one way to know for sure. Wait

Actually, I looked again, and found it. Seems that this video was used from 10.0 to 10.2 (Cheetah to Jaguar).

    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
    • This is exactly why I keep saying we are not ready for human free self-driving. These little "bugs" are may seem like random one-offs. There was also the Waymo that drove between police with drawn weapons and the suspect they were pointing them at. From a software perspective it is easy to understand how those extremely rare situations may not have been programed for, but that is the point. If AI needs to be told to watch out for every possible contingency, then it can never be successful. There will always be the possibility of a first encounter that the AI needs to understand to avoid.
