Mac OS X 'Leopard'-related Discussion

Recommended Posts

2 questions:

1. Is there an interface (System Preferences?) to control resolution independence or does it still have to be triggered via Quartz Debug?

This time I really searched for it, but no, as far as I can tell there's no real option to enable it. Which doesn't really surprise me when looking at the above screen shot.

It's official. Apple have killed off the Apple fanboy public holiday known as iCal Day. The iCal icon in Leopard now shows the current date even if iCal isn't running.

Other things include:

- The Welcome Video to Mac OS X 10.5 now has a new audio track (It's the same one used in the Aluminium iMac ad).

- New Desktop images (A picture of the Earth and a picture of a partial bit of the Earth).

- New Spaces Icon (It isn't very different compared to the previous one. The System Preference Pane icon for Expos? & Spaces has also been updated to match the new Spaces icon).

- Front Row has its own icon (It's the same icon used for it on the Leopard site, Apple Remote buttons).

- Menus and dialog sheets now overlay with a translucent filter, allowing you to see a hint of the underlying windows.

- Screen sharing "finally works right" and seems very fast at full resolution.

- More user interface consistency across the operating system.

Have they finally taken the iTunes 7 scroll bars system wide? Also, the gallery you linked to isn't working. Are there any others?

Here's the corrected link : http://gallery.mcdevzone.com/leopard/

By the way, the guy who posted those screenshots isn't too bright, he had his full name, picture, and e-mail address shown! I guess he can expect a call from Apple Legal soon.

WOW - thats just plain stupid

I just love how the background behind a Contextual Menu stays blurred after closing it, even if it's for a split second. They need to fix that.

And why oh why don't they update the Mail/iCal Dock badges to match the iPhone?! :(

kraized: What's wrong with the icon shades on the Desktop? Maybe I'm just missing it.

Don't you think the icon shadows look a bit out of place from the icons themselves .Neo? I guess the distance between the shadow and the icon is just a few pixels to much for my liking. Picky I know but it just looks wrong and it hurts my eyes.

The icon shadows on the desktop image are horrible. They look so distracting and obtrusive. Very un-Apple, if you ask me.

The new Dock as a whole seams to, in my opinion, conflict with Apple's trademark minimalist and usability-oriented design.

Gave it a shot myself on a white background, the shadows are a bit strong when having the Dock at that size. It's less apparent when having the dock icons at ?48x48 pixels though (depending on your resolution of course).

The only thing that really bugs me about the new Dock is that there's no way to make it look good when zooming a window to fill the entire hight of the display. The icons either overlap it or you get gaps between the Dock background and window. Makes things a bit messy IMO.

At least the current 2D Dock aligns perfectly with a window:

It can make your Desktop look very busy yeah.

can anyone try putting the Dock on top by:

Typing

defaults write com.apple.dock orientation -string top

in the Terminal and restarting your Finder

i wanna know if the new dock adjusts the text (like it did with 2D dock) and reflections for that view

Why is Apple trying to make the dock even worse? I dont get it!

Here you go:

Hmmm... I'm not sure if I like this or the old one more. The current one is very simplistic, and it's clear what volume level you're at. This is more of an estimate.

Has Front Row changed from the WWDC build? I know it has an icon now, but the interface, etc.

And can it do YouTube? That'd be awesome.

Meh, I dunno if I like that new volume bezel. I like the "progress bar" better but the angled gradient ..eh I'll wait until I get it to judge. Also Apple using blur behind the menus/flyouts is pretty funny, hopefully I'll be able to turn that off, I don't see the point in using transparency if your going to blur whats behind it to the point you cannot really see/read it. I like seeing whats behind it clear and crisp.

Thanks for the corrected link. Leopard is sure looking beautiful.

Can somebody please submit the following bug to Apple: "Icon shadows in the Dock cause nausea"?

They look fine to me.

To me a volume meter is a volume meter. The iPod, iTunes, QuickTime and Menu Extras item don't give me an exact number either. Not sure if it's that important to know if my volume is exactly at 43%.

The thing I don't like is how the bezel features a style nowhere else to be found in the OS. And maybe they're going a bit overboard with all the reflection effects? The Dock actually reflects stuff because it's supposed to be a glass plate, so it makes sense. With the bezel it seems unnecessary and out of place.

    • The FIFA World Cup is not US centric.
    • It’s amusing how Microsoft is pushing IT admins as if this was a major, game-changing update. In reality, it’s just an enablement package that bumps the build number, which is disappointing compared to the more substantial 22H2 and 24H2 releases. Technically, 25H2, 26H1, and the upcoming 26H2 are essentially the same, differing only in support schedules. They could have included the Windows K2 improvements here, but chose not to. The era of Windows being in the backburner continues, and this 26H2 release feels like an afterthought. Shame, Nadella, shame.
    • Microsoft, totally not confusing /s 25H2 - Current for non-Arm based Windows 26H1 - Current for Arm based Windows 26H2 - Only for non Arm Windows
    • After I installed those, my older but capable Win 11 laptop (16GB RAM) reported it as 26H2 26300.8697. Then I installed it on my big laptop (128GB RAM! Hehe sorry), it reported it as 25H2 26220.8690. Ugh. Do I have to switch Insiders channels from Release to Beta?
