Mac OS X 'Leopard'-related Discussion

So I just got the latest build...

The old default wallpaper is still around, but has been shuffled into the "Plants" category. It's now called "Grass Blades."

Dashboard is more or less the same, but Web Clip is going to be very useful.

Don't you think it would become a bit boring if every single application started using the the exact same toolbar? I preferred the old style though from few builds back, instead of the glossy stuff.

But don't worry give me a few months after its release and hopefully I'll be able to give it a consistent GUI.

Make sure to include skins for every single 3rd party application out there that adopts the new Leopard look. Otherwise it WON'T be consistent. ;)

Well, I guess you have some modding to do.

Quillz: That must be the only thing that really bugs me. Dashboard changed little to none in Mac OS X Leopard.

Any news on whether Safari includes any anti-phishing features as promised and available in earlier builds? It will be a bit of a disappointment if nothing is there considering every other major browser now contains them.

The Leopard toolbar buttons look like white plastic to me.

they should have kept the aqua for the toolbars or at least make something better than those grey buttons. They looks boring and ugly. Same with iTunes graphics, they look bad.

The weather thing, for one, could be much improved. 50% of the time, the actual weather the widget gives me is plain wrong. That has to do with their databases. I've also seen Konfab's new weather widget, it's simply incredible and has a number of features ours don't.

osirisX : Kinda nice, but the fonts are ugly x_x

.Neo : Ok then, I wanted to know if I could install Leopard on my main partition or not... and I don't have a free partition for Leopard either. So I'll wait some more til the final... I hope they will make a good price for students :p

Apple simply uses a third-party website which the widgets syncs to. Konfabulator does the same thing. So when the website forecast is wrong, the widget is as well. It has little to do with Apple.

Definitely.

In general I'm against the idea of fully transparent windows. I don't mind it for HUD panels, but for main application windows it's a really bad idea.

As am I. I wonder if all the people who think Leopard looks awful have used or at least seen 9A559. It's kind of like the third generation nano... It doesn't look so hot in pictures, but once you've actually used it as a day-to-day OS, it really grows on you. I love the latest build, it's both very beautiful and very stable. I'm finding it hard to go back into Tiger already, although I have to since I still need to sync my iPhone and what not in iTunes.

BTW... Has anyone else noticed this new feature in Safari 3? It may be exclusive to just Leopard...

This is nothing new, it's been in Firefox for quite some time, but it's nice to see it added to Safari. At any time, you just click on "Saved Tabs" and it opens up everything in there all at once. So in my case, I have my 10 most visited sites in there, when I start up the browser or at any other time, I can load them all instantly.

It's in Tiger, too. (Y)

The main reason why I love the Leopard interface is because it really complements the new iMac design. All three elements are there: Aluminium/metal, glass and black elements.

And yeah like you said, it really grows on you when actually working with it. Personally I find it a pain to return to the mess of Aqua, Unified and Brushed that represents Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Yeah, I know about that. But their databases are really bad.

And I don't understand why 10 different sites give me 10 different weathers for Montreal... there aren't 10 companies here to look for the weather.... it's impossible. Anyway, that's something else.

    • I hear you on browser password manager, in my case I have two Google profiles, one was created when Google decided to grandfather us out of Workspace for Domains (with the replacement being too expensive for 25 users) resulting in my domain email address no longer being able to be registered to a new Workspace I created (for myself and another co-owner) so I could use Takeout and sync over some stuff to the new Workspace. Then I have my personal Google profile which I could be logged into on my desktop or Mobile, so I am saving passwords on one or the other, and when an URL changes another password for the same service gets added, it basically ends up being a giant mess. Unless I missed something is there a local decent password manager that can override the browser password managers for Chrome, Edge, Firefox (profiles) so that there is only one vault, and does that also support Passkeys (which to me are still confusing because sometimes it will ask for a Passkey on a phone I am no longer using!) Microsofts implementation of Passkeys is the worst!
    • It's utterly baffling that we have no idea when we'll get new features even well after they've been released. Why Microsoft thinks this is a good rollout strategy is beyond me.
    • If it makes anybody happy, others will need to be bitter about it. (apologies to Yogi Berra)
    • I owned a lot of Soundblaster cards over the years all the way back to the ISA slot era. I use a Soundblaster X3 external now because I'm able to run it through a KVM and have it follow the machine I happen to be using. It drives a set of JBL 305 powered monitors wonderfully. I'm not gaming or doing home theater through it, so rear channels aren't a consideration for me, though it does have side / rear / sub outputs.
    • I disagree that using browser based password managers is a bad idea, your passwords are encrypted by the OS password, but they also be synchronized to make them helpful. I would also use a password manager extension that supports MFA TOTP and Passkeys to manage the account that synchronizes the data. Ente is 100% free and allows you to vault important information, has password vault support, and supports 2FA TOTP support, I just don’t believe, it has a browser extension.
