Mac OS X 'Leopard'-related Discussion

Recommended Posts

I think its cause when you navigate through frontrow, it uses regular key commands (up down left right blah...) well if you press em on your keyboard while you're at the desktop you'll see the cursor vanishes too.

But the cursor returns immediately when you move your mouse. I'm getting a delay after FR. :(

To 2d:

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES; killall Dock

From 2d to 3d:

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean NO; killall Dock

Enjoy.

Also, if anyone is not happy using the Terminal. There is DockSwitcher and TigerDock which do the same thing.

kinda off but then again on-topic:

we almost got the 100 pages.

all filled up with more or less constuctive posts relating to "leopard".

i think thats great. =) especially when you look at how often this thread was cleaned. =)

Anyone had problems accessing http://www.hotmail.com in Safari? Works fine in Firefox but its just constantly reloading in Safari.

Mine seems to work ok here.

That was the first install BUT....

I installed on my MBP C2D and the install got stuck on reboot with the Apple logo for 4 hours !!! I had to reboot same again, so i went through the installation again this time i left it over night and got a login window.

But it would not recognize my password.

Booted of the Leopard DVD and used the password reset option, saved, rebooted still doesnt recognize my password even though the password reset utility found my user correctly.

I am now trying an Archive & Install to see if that works

This problem is appearing all over the net and possibly a BIG problem with the Leopard install lot of people getting a blue screen though.

If my reinstall doesnt work again, does ne1 know any terminal commands that I could run to add a user with root access

UPDATE:

This fixed the problem thankfully.

So if anyone else gets this problem do the following...

When it first boots to start the install go to the 'Options' and select 'Archive & Install' which gives you an option to retain users and network settings.

When its finished ( took about 30mins :)

you can boot back in using your original user name and whatever password you last reset it too.

when Logged back in there will be a 'recovered files' folder and an archive folder which contains all the applications that it backed up.

you can safely delete both of these folders.

hope that might help someone.

so going by the above I am best going through an Archive & Install' and then going back through the archive for apps that I want putting back on Leopard?

Is this as good as a clean install? I wanted to do a clean install as I have a lot of junk on my machine and recently had to boot from disk to clean up some bad sectors on it.

To an external hard drive.

Yep doing that now, its not just a case of drag and drop your old applications thou is it?

I know OSX is isn't like Windows, but you'll still need to take your Library files along aswell?

Download SuperDuper and do a complete bootable backup of your hard drive to an external hd. You can then boot from the Leopard DVD, wipe your internal hard drive and do a clean install. Then in Leopard you can use the Migration Assistant to transfer your info from the backed up drive back to your internal drive.

You've still got your bootable backup if anything goes ###### up.

[EDIT] WooHoo! 100 pages. :p ;)

when you finish an archive install it will leave you with your normal desktop and applications in tact but you will have an archive folder in the root with a duplicate copy so there is no need to copy the apps back accross just delete the 'archive' folder when you are happy that everthing is running ok.

G4 iBook 1.07Ghz, 1.25 GB RAM -

system overall runs fine, but the dock animations (magnify and bounce) are noticibly slower... :(

Overall though, everything works great and about same speeds as before.

I've noticed the same thing on my PPC Mac Mini :(. The system is pretty damned fast though after the initial spotlight indexing. I still need Quicksilver, though, as I'm so used to just hitting Control + Spacebar to bring up the little bezel and type my query. Command + Spacebar for the spotlight window is a tad too slow (for the window to appear).

Also, Neverwinter Nights no longer wants to run. It just hangs after the screen fades out. Makes me a very sad person.

There is a hell of a lot of posts in this topic, lol, too many to read through.

Anyway, the point being, I was wondering if there was a new version of iTunes released with it?

Same exact iTunes as what you have in Tiger. Probably the slowest app in this release.

PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz with 2GB RAM. Leopard runs insanely fast. For a three year old laptop I have to say I'm very impressed.

I did an upgrade install without a problem.

Where did my rounded corners on the menu bar go? :ermm:

I'm not liking the transparent menu bar or square corners.

Quick Look, Terminal, Mail, and the developer tools are awesome.

In Safari the text of unselected tabs is difficult to read.

No, but hopefully maybe iTunes 8 will be out at MacWorld?

Ok, thanks guys.

While I use a Pc and iTunes at home (I have yet to get a mac for myself) I use a mac a good 4-5 days a week and iTunes in Uni, and was hoping for an update to the software, even a 0.0.1 update.

Kinda having that freezing problem with the ipod classic.

But ah well, here's to hoping for soon!

    • Windoze 11 could finally go to hell, instead of making me savor yet another error I've never had. "Bad Pool Caller" or whatever TF cryptic crap0la message it is. Adding salt to injury, it says something along these lines (on the blank black screen after it hard stops): "Your windoze needs to restart. You can restart." NO WAY SHERLOCK. The PEECEE, look, it's *blocked*, I can do jack sh1t with it as it is and you say that it needs to restart? Further, that I can restart? What am I supposed to do, take a herbal bath? Sudo a sandwich? Timewaster pile of useless slop and errors, coded by monkeys and force-fed on us by a pedo-founded corporation, that's all there is to it. Now, let's have a fun weekend trying to handle the error, which after a quick internet check can basically be due to EVERYTHING, from memory faults to drivers to motherboard issues. Thanks M$.

It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. Compact Mode: Maximizes screen space by minimizing UI elements. Zen Glance: Quick website previews. Split Views: View multiple tabs in the same window. Sidebar: Access bookmarks and tools quickly. Vertical Tabs: Manage tabs vertically. Container Tabs: Separate browsing sessions. Fast Profile Switcher: Switch between profiles easily. Tab Folders: Organize tabs into folders. Customizable UI: Personalize browser interface. Security Features: Inherits Firefox’s robust security. Fast Performance: Lightweight and optimized for speed. Zen Mods Customization: Deep customization with mods. Quick Access: Easy access to favorite websites. Open Source: Built on Mozilla Firefox with community collaboration. Community-Driven: Active development and feedback from users. GitHub Repository: Contribute and review the source code. Zen Browser 1.21.3b changelog: New Features Updated to Firefox 152.0.1 Fixes Fixed transparency not working after updating to 1.21.2b (#14259) Fixed frequent crashes affecting users with Intel Raptor Lake processors Fixed an issue on macOS where choosing a PDF option, such as "Save as PDF", from the system print dialog would send the job to your printer instead of saving a file. • Microsoft, why can't I just turn off Copilot on my MS account (in order to stop OneDrive from wanting to summarize everything, ahem) in a way that doesn't break OneNote instead?
