I personally find it a bit insulting as agnostic/atheist to be forced to capitalize god.

you cant be both. if your wavering then your agnostic.

It seems to infer that god does exist

it infers that it is the name of something, that something could well be the 'idea' of God being a 'being'.

And to the inevitable 'get over it' or 'what diffrence does it make', it does. Its no different from using the N***** word, after all those are just letters right?

no, those letters have meanings attached, just as god does.

if you said n***** you'd be insulting someone, if you said God with a capital you'd just be saying you believe that god is a being that has the capacity for a name.

I personally am agnostic and I do capitalize God becuase it is a name.

It depends on the context in which I use the word... Referring to an Abrahamic god, I do it to indicate that it is an Abrahamic god (e.g. Yahweh, God, Allah, ...) In general, no; I've never seen anyone write it as, say, "Zeus was a Greek God" (I don't know if he was or wasn't ;)).

Good question.

Yes, I do capitalize it; but that's because my English teachers always me so. Plus, there's a religious factor as well.

Why?

Because.

He said it's a grammar rule...how's he supposed to explain to you why.

It's the same as capitalizing the first letter in the names of countries and names...and religions and prophets, etc...

Holy baloney!  What a thread bump!

I find it rather frustrating to be required to write god in a manner that betrays my personal beliefs.

Such like I find it frustrating to be required to write the Big Bang theory is the absolute truth, but that is very much in doubt.

It's a title, therefore should be capitalised.  As has said before, grammar is all.

If Im referring to the Christian god "God" then yes I do, because it's the name of that god. I'm im referring to other deities as gods, I don't capitalise it.

Yup, my sentiments exactly.

I personally find it a bit insulting as agnostic/atheist to be forced to capitalize god. It seems to infer that god does exist, but every time I hand in a paper to a professor where I do not capitalize it, they mark it up. I find it rather frustrating to be required to write god in a manner that betrays my personal beliefs.

And to the inevitable 'get over it' or 'what diffrence does it make', it does. Its no different from using the N***** word, after all those are just letters right?

akk my poll didn't attach!

I dont see how that betrays your beliefs if you havent got any. Your an atheist, so why would it matter how you write it. And the reason its with a capital, is because its not just a word, he is the one and only and thats what God is called by.

But why? Isn't the christian god originated from the jewish believes, where his name is yahw (or something like that)?

edit: Google says it's "Yahweh".

I have no idea, it's not something I've ever looked into or had any interest in but Christians call him God, so that's what I'll call him :P

Either, it depends on the the message I'm try to convey. I feel that being offended is just finding offense to find offense (if you are looking for offense, you'll always find it in life unfortunately). I feel similarly for the following things: "bless you", "God bless you", "Merry Christmas". If folks are being cordial, why be offended by what they say even if you don't believe as they do?

    • Payday TWO!! Is 13 years old man I feel old - I remember trying it out and if I did not know I would say 5-6 years ago or something
    • Payday 2 engine upgrade adds 64-bit and DX11 support, drastically shrinks install size by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Payday 2, the most popular entry in the heisting game franchise, is getting a surprising update after all these years. This is slated to be a complete engine upgrade that will enhance almost every aspect of the 13-year-old title, targeting performance, loading times, file size, rendering backend, and more. Developer Sidetrack Games is planning a beta to test out the new version ahead of the full public launch. The development team today revealed that the long-awaited upgrade to the 64-bit architecture is happening with this Diesel 3.0 engine update. By letting the game use more ram than 4GB, it is said to improve stability and compatibility on most hardware. It should also help modders in the long term with implementing larger changes too. "While many of the changes are made on the backend and not everything will be visible to you guys because it is a massive rewrite of the entire codebase, there will be a lot of things that you can look forward to," Sidetrack explained. Payday 2 will also hop over from DirectX 9 to 11. Instead of visual improvements, this is slated to reduce the amount of VRAM used by the title, letting more lower-end hardware access the title and run it better. Since these changes would require a complete redownload of the game anyway, Sidetrack says it has revamped "the game's packaging and bundling system." This should reduce the installation size from 86GB to 32GB. "So, now it's time to finally move the game to your SSDs," added the studio. The Payday 2 Diesel Engine 3.0 update is entering open beta on June 30 for Steam users. No console release plans were announced today. Sidetrack Games says it has been working on this complete rewrite of the codebase for the last nine months. While these changes should break most mods, the studio encouraged modders to use the beta period to repair their creations with support from the development team.
