its irritating for me to explain 40mbit+ constant over 2 days to my host and seeing as ads dont come close to covering the cost (on a good month i make back about 10%) i don't give a monkies if it irritates you and you use another mirror, it saves me bandwidth. If you or other people would donate to the cost of my personal* i'd gladly remove ads for those who donated. Also, if ad revenue picks up i'll remove the forced ads or maybe at least put up another way of informing people

* bold to show donations to me personally not to those making autopatcher

I don't have any problem with you getting some recompense on your investment in a website that folks are going to use. Ads are a fine way to do that, but its the not-so-subtle and backhanded chastising of people who block ads that is inappropriate.

If you want to send a message to visitors, say it to them directly rather than fooling around with javascript redirections. Your users are worthy of a little more respect and you deserve the money for your site. You explained it pretty well here, I'm sure folks would be happy to see it on your site as well.

Respectfully,

Jacob

care to suggest a 'subtle' way of doing it?

The chastising bit? Thats a problem you're welcome to attack on your own. I don't like it, won't support it, but you can do it; its your website. But its only fair do it in an upfront manner, rather than having users unexpectedly find themselves at a Google search results page outlining your position.

Look, I don't see how this conversation can end well; I realize now that I shouldn't have posted until I had calmed down. I'm sorry for blowing my steam off at you, for being something of a smart aleck. I still think my point is a valid one, but I'm not willing to go on and on in a spiral of arguing. I've tried to make my point, you've made yours - lets call a truce and stop before we get in this too deep.

Respectfully,

Jacob
