Question

A fresh "Best Antivirus" poll for 2007. Please use this as a reference when researching antivirus utilities. As time goes on, the poll can be updated to add further options.

Due to limitations of IPB - this will be seen as 2 polls. Select the Antivirus program you wish to vote for, and choose N/A in the other poll.

Happy voting!

Poll choices are links to the software pages.

This is my first post and I just wanted to give you guys a link which might be important:

http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82

NOD32 is definitely one of the best software though, besides being down at #10. However, I've recently shifted to Kaspersky and it's a little better but there is not a quantum leap of difference.

This site isn't trustworthy and the purpose of those tests is to show favoritism towards Kaspersky. This doesn't mean Kaspersky isn't excellent, but it isn't fair towards the other products. For fairness and accuracy, go to www.av-comparatives.org.

i thing i didn't like about avast and avg was how incredibly long it took to do a full system scan.... nearly 1hour compared to 30mins with nod32.

Without knowing what scanning settings where applied in each of the AV programs, this isn't really a fair or necessarily accurate statement.

Not all AV's scan the same amount of files even in a full scan.

The only "full" scan I've ever done was a "Boot" scan right after avast! was installed. That way all files really where scanned even the ones that under normal scans would be used by the system and therefore skipped.

AVG cos its free

How is this funny? A program being freeware should never be the sole reason to use it or recommend it to others. If you like it because it's free than you are also likely unaware of any other reason why you'd like it other than "It looks cool". In AV-Comparatives' November 2006 Retrospective/Proactive comparison report, AVG had the lowest (3%) detection rate of viruses, while NOD32 and AntiVir had the highest (53%). Please do not confuse this with detection of ALL viruses...

This test shows the pure proactive ON-DEMAND detection capability that the scanners had 3 months ago (7th August 2006) with best possible detection settings.

To determine how good a scanner is in detecting zoo-samples on-demand in general with updated signatures, have a look on our February and August tests.

In order to have the highest available protection and proactive detection capabilities, keep your Anti-Virus always up-to-date.

Detection failures in a retrospective test are not up for discussion. Products which cause many false alarms can only get the STANDARD award.

Please rely on the reached certification levels and NOT on the percentages.

The next comparison will be done in May.

I voted Nod32 since I plan to buy a license when I get my refund check soon. I'm still using NAV2003Pro(Yuck :x I know). Cant wait.

I plan to use Antivir or Avast, mainly because they're free, for my friends computer once I figure out which one is better. ;)

I have used SAV,

I have used AVG,

I have used Nod32,

I use Anti Virus Shield which is lol ...AOL Branded Kaspersky for free.

see here?

It has worked very well much to my surprise! :shifty:

Nice. I needed something to install on my friend's pc after reformatting due to some viruses/spyware that he managed to get on his computer. Can't beat free especially if it's Kaspersky :)

Yeah I just installed this the other day, very good light anti virus for those that only need basic protection.

I've tried them all.

NOD32 gets my vote for the best antivirus, because it was the best at protecting againtst viruses.

Avast gets the software engineering award, because it's great at letting you know what it does. Any time it scans anything, the little tray icon spins around.

Symantec takes home both the worst antivirus and worst software design awards, for being a piece of **** at detecting volnurabilities, and being a ****ing resource hog and impossible to remove smoothly.

I'm starting to doubt NOD a bit now. I have it on this computer and on my dad's computer. My dad recently got infected by a virus and NOD32 did jack all. I did a comprehensive scan and it only detected ONE threat. I then proceeded to use F-secure online scanner and it detected 3 viruses and around 181 ad-ware threats. On my computer I've never really have been infected by any viruses (or at least not yet) but for those who haven't been affected by viruses you never really know how well the antivirus program is until you've been infected.

Hello,

You may want to make sure that your father's computer has the latest version of NOD32 installed on it and that all the scanning engine options (signatures, heuristics, ad/spy/riskware, potentially unwanted/unsafe applications, et cetera) are enabled.

Norton Corporate Edition

Uses like 8 meg of ram and blocks everything

& to C++

Norton Corporate aint none of those things

I'm afraid you're suffering from denial and have also been living under a rock for a very long time now. Norton is the absolute worst anti-virus. I've tried 20 products and Norton is in its own league of crapiness.

IMO NAV is the best.

But it's all down to opinions, so I give NAV the thumbs up.

It's your computer and your systems safety however,

Norton is more like a virus than an Anti-virus.

It takes over your system, hogs your resources and unfortunately,

doesn't' rank very high in the protection scheme.

It is also very widely used and is one of the reasons why we have so many infected computers. IMHO

I've just bought Nod32 and was surprised at how little resources it uses on startup. Also, the scanning engine is quite good, picking up a virus that Avast! Professional couldn't detect. All in all, a very happy Nod32 user  .

    • ASUS ROG Falchion Ace 75 HE keyboard is 27% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The ASUS ROG Falchion Ace 75 HE is currently $159.99 on Amazon, down from $219.99. That's 27% off and $60 saved on a keyboard that combines retro and modern design, while being one of the most responsive and adaptable 75% boards available right now (purchase link down below). The ROG Falchion Ace comes with the HFX V2X magnetic switches that allow you to set actuation anywhere between 0.1mm and 3.5mm with 0.01mm fine-tuning steps. It also comes with Rapid Trigger, a feature that resets the key the moment you release it rather than waiting for a fixed reset point, which makes a noticeable difference in fast-paced games. And finally, an 8,000Hz polling rate should make the response time feel instant. The build quality is decent, with dense plastic and powder-coated aluminum, which is expected from a keyboard at this price point. There’s also the onboard adjustment wheel, which lets you tweak actuation and Rapid Trigger sensitivity without opening any software. For competitive gaming, the ROG Falchion Ace is hard to beat at this price. And those who appreciate old-school hardware, especially those white keyboards we’ve all grown up with, will likely also appreciate the looks of this keyboard. A carry case is included.
