Here is the latest, took it from PC Magazine - May 08, 2007

AntiVirusKit 2006 has a clean interface and is easy to navigate-even for the novice. On the other hand, it has plenty of customization features for more advanced users to personalize the program to fit their needs.

The program uses both the Kaspersky and the Bitdefender scan engines which means it uses about double the system resources as the other products. The software also took about 4 hours to scan an 80 GB hard drive versus the 30 minutes the higher-ranked programs take.

The software has won several antivirus test awards, though it didn't pass the level 2 from West Coast Labs, which means it failed to disinfect viruses after finding them.

I've stopped using AV programs since I installed Vista. Whenever I want to do a scan i use F-secure's online scanner.

I used Norton 2003 and 2004 when they came out. They were resource hogs, and couldn't even get rid of the threats/viruses that it managed to detect.

Since then, I joined Neowin, got smarter and started using Avast because it was free.

Switched to Kaspersky, somehow I didn't really like the interface.

Now I'm using NOD32 and there is NO looking back :p

Kaspersky. I was a Norton monkey like most everyone else until a few years ago when I caught a clue. Read the reviews, went with Nod32 but didn't like interface, then went with Kaspersky. I'm completely happy.

Haha. I'm humbled. :) I personally feel it's up to personal preference of users to decide which they feel best. Only the results can show stats but only if you try then you will know. :)

Avira Antivir and Active Virus Shield by AOL (uses Kaspersky Engine) are the best free options.

NOD32 is much faster and lighter than Kaspersky. It also has the best heuristics engine (so you'll be able to detect many new/unknown malware without updates). NOD32 also has a lower false positive rate than Kaspersky.

Kaspersky detects more malware than NOD32 does - it has the largest virus database and is more frequently updated than NOD32. It's also very good at cleaning infected files, while NOD32 doesn't clean infected files.

Kaspersky issues very frequent updates. So if you have an internet connection it more than makes up for its weak heuristics. Nod32 on the otherhand lags behind in detection rate especially with trojans.

Btw, heuristics can lead to false positives. I read that NOD32 was detecting speedbit video accelerator as a malware, possibly because of the large number of connections it establishes on being started.

I use Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition on Vista. I think it does the job fine.

i kinda wanted to try NOD32....mainly because it built on the same engine and its less cpu intensive

i need help...which shud i put back in position?? my KASPERSKy....or.....NOD32 ?/

If resource usage is not an issue, then I would recommend Kaspersky. If you find yourself disabling your antivirus often for eg, to play games, etc (ie, it's affecting your system performance) then go for NOD32.

It's not a retarded layout, it simply does not appeal to you, but it does to me. However, it is one of the best anti-virus products so the user interface should not be the top priority.

I'm using Kaspersky and also liked NOD32/ESET just fine.

I'm just here to say the TrendMicro is not a good choice from my experience with my own computer and other computers...lets stuff in and then can't get rid of it. :angry:

Symantec Antivirus Corporate 10.2 is without a doubt, the best antivirus i've used in my entire life.

I swear it's like it's not even running. More efficient than Norton, AVG, Kaspersky, and NOD32.

In all this diskussions I missed two excellent antivirus solution. When I evaluated for a new antivirus I found two that where quite unknown: Rising antivirus from china and Quick Heal from india. Especially rising found malware not detected by nod32 or kaspersky. Try it.

Generally I think, that main question is not if solution finds all known viruses but if it finds unkown viruses. Thats the point where all solutions are different. See the different test on www.virusbulletin.com.
