Question

A fresh "Best Antivirus" poll for 2007. Please use this as a reference when researching antivirus utilities. As time goes on, the poll can be updated to add further options.

Due to limitations of IPB - this will be seen as 2 polls. Select the Antivirus program you wish to vote for, and choose N/A in the other poll.

Happy voting!

Poll choices are links to the software pages.

is it possible to turn off that annoying voice that says "virus database has been updated !" ?

i'm using avast 4 free version.

i wanted to try "AOL Active Virus Shield" ? is it good ?

It uses Kaspersky engine, which has a much better detection rate. You can also try Avira Antivir. It has a free version available and is a top notch product.

PC World India recently did an AV Shootout (carried out by Av-test.org). Kaspersky was the winner with Norton and Bitdefender being close 2nd and 3rd respectively. Nod32 once again performed rather poorly. Its only advantage is it's heuristics (it was the best performer in proactive defense tests). But that doesnt really matter as kaspersky has a response time of less than 2 hours.

ive been using kaspersky for a while but it was slowing down my system

i switched to NOD but its very good but the interface is ugly

so now im trying panda

Panda? OMG...You think Kaspersky slowed down your PC? Wait until you install Panda...It's worst.

Good luck brother.

I tried AOL (Kaspersky) and it wouldn't allow me to access the web!

Maybe it was a conflict with ASHAMPOO Firewall I don't know but I went back to Norton AV/Ashampoo FW with no problems.

A friend of mine told me that in those anti-virus showdowns in magazines and on the internet when ever they put Avira AntiVir in the mix it pretty much kills all the other contenders. Can anybody elaborate on that. I'm currently using NOD32.

Well I can't comment on Kaspersky 7.0 since I haven't tried it out, but I have used 6.x and NOD32 more than enough times to tell you that Avira AntiVir is quite impressive. Scans hella fast, the detect rate is probably the best (depending on the test sites you visit of course) and it doesn't use much in the way of resources on my machine.

I still prefer NOD32, simply because I've used it for years and I will probably always keep it. But Avira AntiVir is a VERY good AV app, its solid.

While 10.2 is definitely a nice AV, antivir has a higher detection rate and uses less resources last time I checked.
Thanks for commenting on my question guys, I'll give it a try. :)

    • LOL, expect to take you seriously? The $7k myth? Ignoring the BILLIONS Qatar spends every year to influence American politicians and universities? Claim terrorists are "journalists" when they are members of Hamas and even have Hamas funerals with their pictures in Hamas garb. "Snipe kids" when they don't, meanwhile the other side sends kids into battle (and their mothers praise their martyrdom) and uses them as human shields and their schools as rocket launch sites and entrances to their tunnels - which they took all their foreign aid to build at the expense of their people. Base their operations at hospitals - violating every rule of war and making said hospital legitimate military targets? AND THEY KILL LGBTQ+ PEOPLE - listen to their own testimonies themselves, their interviews on what they do to them! They're proud of it! Your talking points are all BS and you know it. Stop defending another Islamic dictatorship that uses terror as their primary policy.
    • BetterMediaInfo 1.0.0 by Razvan Serea BetterMediaInfo is a modern, open-source graphical user interface for MediaInfo, designed to improve metadata inspection workflows for audio and video files. It extracts and presents technical parameters such as codec profiles, bitrates, resolution, frame rate, stream ordering, and container-level attributes in a structured, readable layout. It preserves the full feature set of the MediaInfo library while making the data easier to parse for users working in media management, encoding validation, or post-production environments. In short, BetterMediaInfo takes the power of MediaInfo and makes it much easier to use. Whether you're checking video quality, verifying audio settings, or just curious about a file's details, it gives you clear, organized info without the clutter. Requires Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is included in most Windows versions. BetterMediaInfo 1.0.0 changelog: Added an Image stream table to the card view and detail view, including type, color space, resolution, and size fields.
