Question

A fresh "Best Antivirus" poll for 2007. Please use this as a reference when researching antivirus utilities. As time goes on, the poll can be updated to add further options.

Due to limitations of IPB - this will be seen as 2 polls. Select the Antivirus program you wish to vote for, and choose N/A in the other poll.

Happy voting!

Poll choices are links to the software pages.

Kaspersky 7 is my choice. I've had no problems and has detected everything so far. As far as footprint, it runs at 2-3k on idle and it will go to 15k when scanning something with heuristics on then decreases back to 2-3k. Far better than nod32's constant 20k on mine.

Nod32 I used until a year or two back it let slip a virus which kaspersky later caught. Kaspersky 7 is a lot more lightweight than previous versions, and on par with nod32's memory usage. Although I do notice that browsing is slowed down a bit because of the scanning.

Kasperskys web scanning also gave me problems with flash and Maxthon 2.0. I don't know if that's still the case.

I tried the new Nod32 beta with it's new look, but it uses around 26-30k memory -_-, and when I donwload something it freezes my pc or the download until it's done doing its thing. But it is only beta.

I used the free 3month full version of Antivir internet security but I only really needed the virus scanning and antispyware but it seemed to also alter my pcs response time (not by much I guess same as kaspersky). I like it but I would just stick with the free version.

I'm trying avast pro again and it seems to be running flawlessly. I prefer it over avg because avg had always let something by in the past. Avast also doesn't use much memory anyway compared to avg, and avast just seems more thourough.

In order

Free:

Antivir

Avast

Avg

Paid:

Kapsersky

Nod32

    • This 4K webcam from Acer is now only $59.99 by Taras Buria Those looking for an affordable, high-resolution webcam from a reputable manufacturer can check out the latest deal from Acer, which puts its 4K webcam at a solid price. Thanks to a 14% discount, you can buy this all-metal 4K webcam from Acer for just $59.99. Despite the affordable price tag, the webcam has a pretty large 1/2" CMOS sensor manufactured by Sony. Apart from its size, it supports additional conveniences, such as high dynamic range and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). Plus, the camera ensures you do not have to buy additional audio equipment, as it comes with two built-in high-sensitivity microphones, a built-in background noise filter, and the ability to pick up your voice from up to 2.5 meters away. Acer is not cheaping out on materials, and the webcam is enclosed in a more premium metal case, which is also good at heat dissipation (high-resolution cameras can get quite hot). And to make sure no one is peeping at you when the camera is in use, there is a magnetic cover also made of metal. Additional conveniences include an LED status indicator and a built-in mount that lets you place a camera on a tripod.
