Question

A fresh "Best Antivirus" poll for 2007. Please use this as a reference when researching antivirus utilities. As time goes on, the poll can be updated to add further options.

Due to limitations of IPB - this will be seen as 2 polls. Select the Antivirus program you wish to vote for, and choose N/A in the other poll.

Happy voting!

Poll choices are links to the software pages.

Antivr has been doing a good job for me.

I tested alot of the free alternatives, and Antivir is my choice.

The only bad part is that sometimes is a bit hard to update the definitions, i think their servers get overloaded very easily maybe.

If i had to go a payware, i would go NOD32.

I used to be a complete Kaspersky fan (was using Kaspersky Internet Security), but I recently uninstalled it after it caused a good bit of slowdown, as well as extremely slow virus scans. I also wasn't a big fan of it asking me what to do every so often in relation to the built-in firewall. I decided to install the RC1 version of ESET Smart Security (ESS), and it has been wonderful! It actually found a trojan on my computer that Kaspersky didn't even detect! Also, it scanned all of my files in a comprehensive scan with heuristics in under an hour! The firewall in this suite is very smart and silent; not a single message to annoy the heck out me. :p The RAM usage is minimal also. I'm sold on ESS now. :)

I can't seriously make a decision to be honest, since I've never actually had a virus infection.

But.. I thought i'd give Avast (free) a test drive and visit some shady sites, and it detected a virius exploit the second I opened the page and stopped the file immediately. So theres a thumbs up. Lightning detections!

Cool program. :)

NOD32 v3- nice new interface, fast and efficient

Kaspersly- similar matching performance, but depends on the config settings, best detection, and skinnable!

i used the NOD32 beta AV package, - lack of confidence, i know it has poor detection ratings- no proactive defense, which is uber important.

BAD:

NOD32- interface bugs, update bugs, poor detection when malware has penetrated the system- 27-35MB of ram

Kaspersky- can be rsources intensive- depends on settings, somewhat ugly default interface

i have to say, my tweaked KAV7 runs so smooth, its better than NOD32, although scans are slow, its because of the ''advanced'' heuristics detection component, something NOD32 lacks massively

I've switched off Avira, Nod32, Kapersky and Avast. Avira has the best detection rate (in my experience), Nod32 uses little resources , kapersky weasnt so bad and avast was pretty okay. I didn treally like Kapersky for its slwo updates, my nod32 skipped about 7trojans that my Avira found and Avast well i just didnt like it. Voted for Kapersky, but i'd go with AVira :p
