Acronis True Image 10 , its the best backup and restore software i have used till date.

I like its bootable cd also which allows me to restore the image without even booting into windows.

Never had any problems with backup and restoring via it.

Also like its compression rate and image restore time.

I have also used Norton Ghost 2K2 and 2K3 thats my second choice.

I've actually had wonderful luck with Areca Backup for at home and work. It's free too!

I have it set up on my parents' computer. I have it scheduled to run a batch backup every two weeks and then it E-mails me with the results, so I know if everything went okay or if there was a problem. Very handy. Also, there is an update/improvement to the software pretty much every time I check which is always nice.

Just saw this thread and I registered just to post. For imaging, Acronis TI is great. However, the best definitive backup program I would have to say is rsync. Not user friendly but definitely the best.

I backup 250GB of data every night over the internet with DSL on one end and Cable on the other (including several databases with over 3GB of data). It typically takes under an hour! Additionally, I have 5 separate instances of the data and am only using about 350GB of storage. This is because rsync only transferrs the changed data and also supports hard linking files. So if we only change and/or add 100MB of data, that's all it transferrs, even if some or all of that was added to a multi GB database. Hard linking is cool because the exact same files are only physically stored on the backup server once and they appear in each and every one of the backup folders. Not until you delete the last instance of the file does it remove the physical data. And with the patched rsync that supports vss, backups are heaven.

Rsync to an offsite server all the way.

Hi people,

I'm new to doing backups and I would like a backup app that backs up from a client to a file server across a LAN, the thing is are there any that can run tasks while in non-administrator mode? I dont need file compression.

SyncBackSE seems to be a nice app, but I'm not sure if it does non-admin backups.

Any helpful suggestions or experiences?

Thanks in advance

I've never use any backup software before. But now I'm interested.

I need one that would automatically backup my internal HD to my external automatically once a week or I could do it manually. Would any backup software do?

I have never used anything other than Ghost and True Image and I find True Image to be much better than Ghost in everything. I really love that software.

What I'm really looking for is something that would update my internal to the external. Say I add, tweak, or delete files on my internal. So once a week, it should update the minor change to the external. Maxtor OneTouch did that job. I just never tried it. So I don't think Ghost or True Image accomplish that task. Or does it?

I use NovaStor NovaNET at work, kinda does the trick. Although it gives some bizarre errors sometimes.

Is there a better backup software out there which is similar?

You can take a look at True Image workstation. It can also backup trough network and executes scheduled backups. From my personal experience I can claim that it is rather stable and easy in use. Furthermore it is cheaper than Novanet.

Acronis True Image is awesome, but I really do like the new Windows Backup app in Windows Vista. If you need something that doesn't have a lot of features, but is still pretty powerful, and you don't want to spend a lot of money, I'd recommend Windows Backup if you have Windows Vista.

Otoh, I would not recommend Vista's built in backup. The following reasons uphold my statement:

1) If you do a full backup, then reinstall Vista, you cannot restore your files without doing another backup. If you don't do another backup, the program says "You have not yet backed up this computer" and then exits. Kinda pointless.

2) A full backup isn't exactly full. I only found this out after the event, but after restoring my D: drive after what I thought was a full backup, ALL my program files (e.g. .EXE files) were missing. It turns out Vista doesn't back up program files. So I've had to reinstall all my games (WoW, FSX, MSTS) and hunt down the disks for older games like Q3Arena.

YMMV.

Now I could have prevented a lot of heartache by spending more time reading how to use it, but I don't expect backup software to behave like this. Ever. Coming just weeks after my NAS drive failed without a backup, I was more than a little put out.

I am now going to try out Acronis True Image, people seem to like it :)

General Hardware-Oriented System Transfer ( GHOST ) ...of course... with the powerful scripts You can do almost Anything...No issues, even with SATA disks...You only need less than 2mb space for the DOS .exe.

Even it has powerful diagnostics of the file system and hard-drive. NO major issues in a lot of diferent hardware.

The Definitive backup and cloning tool...!. Yes Sir...!
