Question

A fresh "Best Firewall" poll for 2007. Please use this as a reference when researching Firewall utilities. As time goes on, the poll can be updated to add further options.

Due to limitations of IPB - this will be seen as 3 polls. Select the Firewall program you wish to vote for, and choose N/A in the other polls.

Happy voting!

Welp where is Sygate Personal Firewall? I used to use that firewall, but then I changed to Comodo to see what it's like, and it wasn't "all that" so I went back to Sygate. (Comodo uses more memory and resources than sygate (although it does protect against more) and also has a ghey UI and won't STFU asking me if my apps can connect to the internet.. I'VE TOLD YOU FIREFOX CAN CONNECT TO THE DAMN INTERNET, SO FO ASKING ME EVERY TIME I START FIREFOX WITH A DIFFERENT URL WHETHER IT CAN STILL CONNECT, YES, YES IT FRICKEN CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET THANKS)

I voted other as I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, its never let me down in the years I have used it.

I removed it from the poll because I was under the impression that it's not on sale any more after they've been bought by Symantec. If this is incorrect, please let me know and I will re-add it.

You indeed are correct, it is no longer available as Symantec bought it out and abandoned it, pity really as its far superior to what they still offer currently :(

But that's just my opinion :)

If you can afford a hardware firewall, then either get a router or a second machine and run a Linux distro on it.

If you can't, then use Outpost or Comodo.

Or go with neither and rely on computer sense (safety guidelines to prevent malicious infections/instrusions in the first place).
