Comodo rules. I am waiting on Vista. too many problems now and I also dont believe on spending 400 for a cd in a box.

My router has in built firewall i guess coz i see the option ans setting for firewall in it and its enabled. Although i use windows firewall

Agnitum can go and die. It killed one of my HD from the frequent BSODing. I know this because, after uninstalling it, the BSODs doesn't appear anymore.....

The common factor here is your computer itself. Do a thorough search for viri, spyware, malware, bad drivers, registry issues... anything.

So I bought a new PC that comes with Vista, and was looking at this thread for one that would work well for Vista. I used Sygate forever and I don't think Sygate will work on Vista, so what would be the next best thing to use for a Firewall?

I just started using "comodo" a few days ago and I really like it right now. It's not to obtrusive, has great features, and just very easy to use. I have it backed up with my router and so far it's great.

Use a NAT router or another PC as a Linux box and put SmoothWall on it or something. If you must use a software-based firewall, read up on the dozens of them at www.matousec.com. I recommend Comodo Firewall Pro which is freeware.

I just use my router's built in one. Haven't had any problems.

NAT is a feature integrated on most (all) routers, and on by default. More info:

It needs no setup at all, just turn it on if it's off from your routers configuration page.

I perfer to use "What is Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" you get to setup your own rules that if you know how to use it...

I use a hardware firewall in conjunction with the Vista built-in firewall.

I find it sufficient and it's nice to not have to worry about using anything else. I don't feel I need outbound protection either.

Ok so this topic has been hashed to death but has anyone who is a hardcore online gamer found the best firewall for use with them? Criteria being, small memory footprint, unobtrusive to gaming connection, thorough enough to use with a router etc..

I use AVG Antivirus with firewall, it is full compatible with Windows Vista. I have no problems.
