The best one I've used other than a hardware firewall(router) was Zonealarm 4.5.594.000. I know the latest is version 7 but any versions I used after that 4.5 version just didn't like my computer. Had way too many problems with versions 5 & 6. IMO that version I posted is the last good version of ZA. I know its old but its done me well.

Ok people once more. Hardware firewalls are to stop in bounds. Sotfware firewall are to stop out bounds. I use Comdo Free Firewall and My 2Wire Modem has a built in hardware firewall. And yes ask any expert. you do need both hardware and software.

This site proves that Comodo is # 1

My wired router died on me over the weekend, so just been using Windows firewall only now that I'm directly connected to the modem. I know its only one way and a full two way firewall is better, but ah I'm an intelligent user and just don't need anything more then just basic stealthing of ports.

Use Comodo...............its far superior to Windows Firewall.

Whys is so much better tho? Besides that its a full two way firewall and all? As I said I'm an intelligent user, haven't even had any of my systems get a virus in yearsss, and was fine for a longg time with nothing but routers firewall, so why do I need anything more then just basic simple one way firewall thats basically all the routers firewall was too?

Ok I turned off Windows firewall, installed Comodo, just to try at least, and hmm, guess its cause its blocking useless pings and connections Windows firewall was allowing, I guess, but my browsing speed just got faster. Not too heavy on resources at all either, and easy to configure, ok its a keeper.

Installed my copy of Vista again, so decided to try the beta version of Comodo firewall for Vista. I know its a beta, but what the heck. 2.4 on XP was easy to use and configure, and now, its protection overload, I'm having to approve things like ten times a minute pretty much everytime a file on the system access's another file. This is NOT easy to use anymore and just extremely annoying now. I'd rather just go back to using just my router's firewall then have to deal with this.

Last night I tried the current Comodo beta (on Vista Business 32bit). After the installation I

rebooted my PC but it would no longer boot into windows, giving the following message:

"License Error

An unauthorized change wa made to your license.

To keep your system stable, you must go online and validate that your software is genuine.

--> Validate online

--> Close"

If I didn't have backup images of my system, I would have had to re-install Windows; MS

had no way of re-activating the license as it was no longer possible to get into Windows.

I hope it's just a beta release problem that will eventually be worked out.

Comodo Firewall 2.4 & Router Firewall

@xpgeek

On my xp, comodo whines heaps of times. It's not just a vista thing. It does eventually take a hint though.

Might be the alert setting in Main window -> Security -> Advanced -> Miscellaneous. Might be different in beta though.

I think its the HIPS engine introduced in 3.x.

Yes, to be honest it drives me crazy and once I had to deactivate it just to install or run something (can't remember what).

But anyway, Firewall + HIPS = more safety allegedly.

Tried most freeware firewalls, still using Sygate. Easy to configure and use, once a connection is set it stays that way, except when a program executable is updated. Always passes Shields Up leak test with full stealth which I take to mean, if they can't find you, they can't hack you. Only problem I've found is, with Avg running, my boot time slows a little.

I've tried both Sygate & Codomo. Sygate was pretty awesome til i foudn ou tabout Codomo :). Great UI and looks fresh, love how it works (except for thos annoying warnings aobut the same apps i click on for allow all the time but it stil lasks). lol well i'm very used to Codomo now, but its pretty hard to choose between the 2 ^^

I've been using Comodo for two or so years now and am thinking of getting Kasperky's Internet Security (Anti-Virus + Firewall.) Does anyone know how good Kaspersky's firewall is compared to Comodo or does anyone feel it provides adequate protection?

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
