I have the same experience as Vettetech. My drives are quieter after using PD7 and if I do an offline defrag, the boot time is faster than it is with bootvis.

I know I thought it was odd at first but after talkin to some more people they also dont hear there drives as much. Diskeeper is the same as windows defrag. Sure Perfectdisk take about 2 hours to defrag both my drives but thats cause it does a "perfect" job.

Anyone using UltimateDefrag besides me? I think its a great simple program that gets the job done without a lot of resource usage.

Yes I do, and I love the options they have for specific files or file types or directories to decide where on the hard drive to put those. My vote absolutely goes to UltimateDefrag.

I'm not sure but I think this might be my first post ever on Neowin. I'm a pretty long time lurker.

Hi,

it seems there's too much defragmenter tool in the market.

I've been reading many thread, and often arguments are:

I prefer X and someone answer nope I prefer Y,

which you guess is really instructive

Personnally I've been using diskeeper for years.

But now I have a seagate 120Gb ,

and despite defragmenting , my hdd looked often busy.

When I tried latest version of diskeeper 2007, things got even worse (as if my hdd was more busy than ever)

I just switched today, to perfect disk, and I got the pleasant surprise to see that my hdd was more silent.

I must also say, that I've disabled a lot of XP services, so maybe it's not just because of perfectdisk. ;)

Also things I like about perfectdisk: compatible with vista & XP,

while for diskeeper you must install a different version depending of your system.

Never tried O&O defragment, but I tried O&O unerase v4 and got the feeling that the product sucks .....

Maybe because I'm just unexperimented. Anyway I don't like having too much option to tweak,

and it seems the "advantage" of their defragment tool.

Speedisk ? Well I hate Norton products ... (too bloated, or crap left on hdd even after uninstall)

Conclusion: I stick for the moment with perfectdisk.

I'm curious to see how good are these defragmenter:

- DirMS/Buzzsaw (ugly website, but some good reviews)

- Vopt (idem: ugly website, but some good reviews)

- Ashampoo Magical defrag (because I liked some ashampoo products)

Its not the services. I have most services shut off. I have had Perfectdisk for about 4 months now and my pc has never run better.

Harlem39s Finest, I'm afraid there is no decent FREE defragmenter.

Just use Windows Defrag.

JKDefrag. It uses the Windows API like every other defragmenter. It can be run automatically using Windows Scheduling. It's very basic, open-source, no crap. I've switched to it from Diskeeper for a while to see how it compares with commercial products.

Just suddenly had to switch to Diskeeper2007 from PD8 due to constant BSOD while defragging lately. I sent the complete memory.dmp file to raxco support for analysis and they replied that culprit is the IdeChnDr.sys driver of IntelApplicationAccelerator. They ask me to upgrade this driver but it's indeed the latest version.

I have no problems with DK2007 yet.

OK Diskeeper was giving some problems so was looking for another software. Tried Magical defrag from Ashampoo was ok but not something i wanted. The found a software named DiskTrix Ultimate Defrag and wow it has made my system so damn fast. It took around 1 hour to do the initial defrag and now system running so smooth..

And how does UltimateDefrag stand against PerfectDisk or O&O Defrag? I'd like to give it a try if there's a trial available cause I think there are many less known programs which are better than the most popular ones.

I particulary found this to be true in case of antiviruses.

Actually i just defragmented my whole system and it feel a whole lot alive. Windows boot a bit faster, icons in downloads folder are generated faster. I have like 200 files in downloads folder all shareware or free ware apps.

So it has made my system and file access much faster.

    • I would recommend the Nothing 2a. The battery life is awesome, 2 or 3 days without going into battery power mode. The only thing that I've been looking into recently is that it doesn't "support" Graphene OS. I'm pretty sure there is a way, I just need to do some more looking.
    • You'd have to show me an example of a listing that says Gen 1, usually i'd expect that to mean Snapdragon Gen 1 (a type of chipset, which the Pixels don't use). Pixel 7 - White - 128gb - Unlocked - 85%+ battery - Grade B+ - $159 with free delivery - https://www.ebay.com/itm/398046617206 Pixel 7 - Obsidian - 128gb - Unlocked - 80%+ battery - Very Good - $157 with free delivery - https://www.ebay.com/itm/355617734563 Both look to be sold by companies with good feedback, dealing with refurbished phones and state the phones are unlocked with a clean IMEI. Obviously I can't vouch for either company though, but the listings look good in my opinion.
    • Because Chrome is doing it. And no one said anyone had to update immediately. That's silly. They could update every day for all I care as long as it's fast, and the next time the browser restarts, you're good. And the basic point is not to tee it up for bigger updates. As it is right now, all the windows I had open reopen anyway except inprivate.
    • Why? Does anybody actually want this? The constant need to close all browser sessions and wait for a new version to install, just so that there’s a integrated coupon manager feels like a waste of everyone’s time
    • I remember when Louis used to just do interesting Mac/iPhone repairs, now he's boring and just launches "crusades" every week
