Windows Live OneCare v1.5 RTM

Recommended Posts

"We?ve been hard at work on our next release, and I am pleased to let you know that we hit an important milestone right before the end of the year. That is, our development and test work is done on the next major release of OneCare, and as we announced about a month ago, it will indeed be available ? both at retail and on the Web - at the end of January. There may be some slight variations by country, but for the most part, you should be able to download or buy in just a few weeks. And for those of you who already subscribe, you need to do ? nothing. You?ll automatically receive this major upgrade, just as you receive minor upgrades throughout the year, as part of your OneCare subscription."

I've been on the dev team for Windows one care , I would have to say that Milestone 1.5 is very well rounded. We've pounded out some of the issues with XP and Vista support and as well improved in performance as well as kept resource useage down.

On a consumer side of things i think that onecare is a very well rounded virus protection. Norton and others just seem to be so bloted with extra stuff and very very user unfriendly , with windows one care its very very understandable and also very easy to use. Does the auto updates for you and never locks up your system or pops up a annoy window saying you gotta up date or anything , you just get a nice little bubble saying Your windows one care has been updated and thats it.

So for anyone that has been useing free ones or others , I would recommend trying one care on the 90 day free trial and seeing the big diffrence.

I am in the OneCare Perpetual Beta, so I have been using 1.5 now for a while on my Vista install and I like it a lot. Its simple and doesnt use many resources. I kind of like how it defrags my harddrive for me every now and then too since I never get around to doing that my self lol.

    • Personally, I think these things are way over rated and way over priced, even at this price. I recently had Frontier Fiber installed with 2 of these devices and although they worked, I switched back to my own router and AP setup and get way better consistency on wireless speed than with Eeros. Wired speed seems to be more consistent also. Will be returning Eeros soon. I had told Frontier I didn't want them to begin with.
    • Yes, exactly what I have been thinking. Don't make the context menu simpler, make it smarter to learn what I actually use. And then, give me the ability to pin settings that I rarely use but need forget where they are.

Later today, Geoff Keighley will be bringing the 2026 edition of Summer Game Fest live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Keighley has only dropped a few teasers about what gaming fans can expect to see at the show. This includes a new look at Star Wars Zero Company from EA, a major announcement from Guild Wars developer ArenaNet, more Clutch gameplay, and some sort of Sega presence. As for fan expectations, there is hype building about a Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 reveal here, and we might see new details about announced games like Alien Isolation 2 as well. If you want even more games, keep in mind that right after the main kickoff event, the Day of the Devs showcase will begin its own festivities at 4 pm PT | 7 pm ET. This is focused entirely on upcoming indie games. Following this, the next major games showcase is slated to happen on June 7.
