Hold your Wee for a Wii.

It is not known if Ms Strange succeeded in winning the console.

lol?

Its ashame someone died for a Wii when they could have (probably) waited in line for a shorter period of time than this contest lasted. Saw this story a few days ago.. I can't believe some people.

SACRAMENTO, California - A radio station fired 10 employees, including its three morning disc jockeys, after a woman died following an on-air water-drinking contest last week.

The hosts of KDND-FM's "Morning Rave" were fired Tuesday, a day after the station said it was suspending the show and investigating the death of Jennifer Lea Strange.

Strange, 28, was one of about 18 contestants who tried to win a Nintendo Wii gaming console by seeing how much water they could drink without going to the bathroom. The show's DJs called the contest "Hold your Wee for a Wii."

During the contest, participants were given two minutes to drink an 8-ounce bottle of water and then given another bottle to drink after a 10-minute break.

Strange may have drunk nearly two gallons, witnesses said. She appeared ill, one contestant said.

After the contest, Strange called in sick to work. She was found dead at her home about five hours later.

The Sacramento County coroner said preliminary autopsy findings indicated she died of water intoxication.

Drinking large quantities of water rapidly can throw off the body's balance of electrolytes, causing brain swelling and leading to seizures, coma or even death.

Strange had showed fellow contestants photographs of her two sons and daughter, for whom she was hoping to win the Nintendo Wii. The game console sells for about $250.

That's BS

I thought it was common knowledge that too much water can actually kill you. It actually doesn't even take a whole lot to do it either.

I wouldn't be surprised if the station keeps doing stupid stunts like that. They might stop for a while, but they'll do something stupid again.

I hate to be the first to say this, but, natural selection is nice. If someone is that stupid just to win somehting for there kids, and in the process end up killing themselves, they get what the deserve.

People participate contest like these mainly for the experience of it.

Not many people actually know that water could kill you. A lot know that drinking a lot of water isn't good for you, but they don't know what it can actually do to you.

I think it was a stupid contest, but I don't think that the contestants were stupid for participating. I think they were just ignorant of the facts.

I was just about to post this. Man those DJ's were dumb****s.

yea, freaking incredible huh

thing is...they are totally just playing that 'stupid hardass radio dj' role... those people are so phoney I hate radio DJs and morning shows. Especially in Atlanta, but Im pretty sure all cities and radio shows are interchangeable there.

People called in to tell the DJs that drinking too much water could kill someone. Also, the DJs talked about a college student that died recently from drinking too much water in a frat hazing. So, they were well aware of the dangers.

Leah Betts anyone? People don't realize that water intoxication can happen.
Someone called into the show while the competition was going on and mentioned it. The radio show hosts said that they were aware of water-intoxication and said that they "had it covered" or something to that extent. They obviously didn't take the risk seriously.

    • Anybody that thinks flying cars were possible are idiots. Everyone would basically need a pilot licence, can you imagine how insane and dangerous that would be, people can barely handle driving on land safely right now.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
