Beckham vs Pele in the USA

The fact is that becks is a poster boy. He will make loads of money in america but america / canada has no interest in soccer. They remain oblivious to the sport.

I once remember an american comedian, of african origin that once said "meah black ppl dont play soccer"

you dont need to go as far as africa. most of french national team players are from africa, or at least black frenchies.

anyway beckham is purely for marketing reasons. if it will popularise the sport than fine! but he is not the best player now, and absolutely uncomparable to legends like pele.

all i have to say is if i was getting paid as much as beckham was getting paid to go over to the USA whether i was crap or not i would be there with bells on.

Pele had a HUGE impact on soccer when he was with the Cosmos! Stadiums would get filled with fans who were there just to watch Pele..I'm talking 70-80 thousand people. That's unheard of for a sport like Soccer in the U.S.
