AutoPatcher XP January 2007

the free hosting rule is really just a loose rule, i'd prefer it if people didn't use them because its not really what the services are intended for, its kind of an abuse of there service to submit them to our large amount of traffic, however i'm not too bothered unless anyone else is. if people don't like it (especially the official mirrors) then speak up or pm/email me and i'll enforce the rule.

personally, i believe that torrent/emule mirrors may help a lot sometimes. it may decrease the amout of traffic on mirrors (saving bandwith to the main server) and this kind of thing. at very begining, it may save a lot of wasted transfer due corruption caused by overload on server. at the very begining, sometimes you may download something several times and always got an currupted download. if you download 10 times 60mb (by eg), you waste 600mb, instead far less, if you are can download it at once. of course, a mirror at torrent/emule is not suitable in all cases...

^ I fully agree with you. I usually share my releases via eMule. It's a good way to spread them.

@ parrini:

I know people want AutoPatcher in their language, as fast as possible, but my life is not related with computers, so i only spend some of my free time in from of them. I have many things with bigger priority.

As i said, i was never intended to release a PTB version, since i don't even have a PTB windows...

I don't feel that you or anyone is in debt with me, but you guys can't push me that much. And yes, we accept all the constructive critics. No hard feelings. :)

From now on, supermouse will be in charge of the PTB versions, and the team will make the release official.

i wouldn't mind if using free hosting was actually helping but i know for a fact my mirror hasn't been full since i started mirroring (over a year ago) and i'm pretty sure the other mirrors would be in a similar situation so i'd prefer it if places to download were kept to the links in the first post. not only would that keep a single place for links but it'd help stop any corrupt files getting out as there'll be an official record of links

yep. but even if they seed for the very beginning, already helps the main mirror. at emule, is another thing. mostly people share things by ages, but it's slower than torrent. anyway, if you have at least 1 copy outside of the main mirror, it helps to spread by another mirrors ;)

Is there any mirror available for the Jan 2007 Brazilian full release, preferably via BitTorrent? I've just spent a couple of days trying to download it from the LittlBUGer site, without success. I've tried with Firefox 2.0.0.1 and Opera 9.10 (they both time out, usually early in the download); then twice with FlashGet 1.73, even though the site FAQ's advise against using download managers (in this case the download actually completes, but the file itself is corrupted, and each time with a different MD5 checksum)

I'm using WinXP SP2 (English version, fully patched, virus & spyware free) on a 2Mbps ADSL link, and regularly manage to download stuff at about 200KBps, with no trouble at all.

While I'm at it, and notwithstanding the great job the developers for the Brazilian version are doing (and for which, as an IT consultant in S?o Paulo, I'mvery> grateful), would it be too much to ask you to upload torrents for your releases along with the regular downloadable files? I'm sure most people here (or those from Brazil, at least:))) would be glad to help seed them far and wide...

cello, sorry, but i'm unable to do that, because i don't have the encripted version myself. and i've tried and i'm really concerned about the waste of bandwith on that mirror. i've trided download that at least a dozen of times, without any kind of firewall enabled, firewall activated, download by IE7 alone, by firefox alone, by opera alone, by getright without any kind of segmentation, but nothing does it download it until the end (and resume doesn't work even for opera download manager). really, there's no need for a fast mirror or something, but resume is a needed thing to not waste the bandwith from server. if is the case, i can let my pc running 24x7 by a long time seeding it. it may not be the best way or the faster one, but at least will not damage the mirror or take unneeded costs. at this way, sounds like a lottery this download

Gandolas,

First of all, thanks a lot for your time and patience.

I hope you don't think I'm being ungrateful or anything, but I believe that Megaupload claims to have a limited number of "download slots" for each country, and in order to circumvent that restriction you have to install their "toolbar" on your browser (which I'm reluctant to do, for obvious reasons).

Fact is, I've never been able to download anything from them, and fear that this upload - on which you'll spend more time and bandwidth than you already have - is going to be another dead end for us Brazilian users.

Another, more resilient and permanent solution is needed, IMHO, so I'm gonna ask again: can you distribute the file via BitTorrent? I'm willing to help you seed it, for the first few days (and I'm sure there are others who'll help, too).

Thanks!

I'm willing to help you seed it, for the first few days (and I'm sure there are others who'll help, too).

Thanks!

I'm willing to seed it to, I have a 6Mbps upload link that should help. In fact I only haven`t done it yet because I was having trouble with LittlBUGer too... (er... why are we talking in english here?) :D

Jusk kidding... other people should understand what we discuss ... :D

anyone having problems with autopatcher loading the windows installer on launch? everytime i try and run autopatcher it starts windows installer and wants me to point to the autocad msi installer for some reason, i tried that but it just keeps cycling through installing...

I apologize everyone for any inconvenience that my mirror might have caused. My server gets very popular around the time when a new AP gets released and even though it's quite powerful, I don't have a fully unmetered 100Mbps line (only 21Mbps) so that may slow things down a bit if there's several hundred people trying to download. Because of this, things go slow and thus sometimes downloads get corrupted. I'm working now with my host to implement a few other optimizations to try and fix this issue as well as upgrading to PHP 5.x, mySQL 5.x, and Apache 2.x to see if that helps at all. I know the files are OK as I always check the MD5 of the files on the server right before I make them public. I will also check out my downloads script to see if there's any strange there too. Thanks for your understanding and again, sorry for the inconvenience. :)

Man, there`s nothing to apologize here! You are doing a great thing mirroring those files and it has been flawless over time. We are trying to start a .torrent to ease things up so you won`t take the full demand. As soon as we get a copy we`ll start the torrent. Hang on! =)

I've been having the same problems downloading the english version from his site for a good half the year, and since I'm on dial-up, I've given up, and switched to use torrent without any problems. (esp. for the full 300+mb downloads).

Also, speaking of which, If I repackage the Nov. Full + Dec. XP update with Inno, it compress it to 288MB, compared to the original NSIS installers totaling 369 MB.

ATEN??O BRASILEIROS QUE EST?O BAIXANDO O AUTOPATCHER VIA TORRENT:

- CONTINUEM SEMEANDO O ARQUIVO DURANTE PELO MENOS O MESMO

TEMPO QUE LEVOU PARA FAZER O DOWNLOAD POIS NO MOMENTO N?O TEMOS

MIRRORS SUFICIENTES. N?O CUSTA NADA NEM ATRASA NENHUM DOWNLOAD, ?

S? DEIXAR O PROGRAMA DE TORRENT ABERTO MAIS ALGUMAS HORAS. SOMENTE

ASSIM VAMOS TER UM TORRENT SAUD?VEL, OK?

>> sorry english-speaking people, jusk asking for more seeders cuz we don't have enough mirrors =)

Sorry for that... I wasn't shouting, but sometimes we need to emphasize the message ;)

Ps.

That .torrent is going strong, thanks! But I think it's only on DHT because I'm getting a message saying the tracker haven't authorized the torrent. Only people using uTorrent or BitComet (that have DHT) are getting it.

I've updated the torrent info (removing the tracker).

And yes, it's only DHT (i'm using uTorrent)... As I said, I don't have experience with torrents.

D'ont worry. Things are going on. Those who are using uTorrent or any other client that runs DHT are downloading and spreading your great job and favour.

cumps,

A Brastuga ( or a Portuzuca if you so wish)

    • This looks awesome, I will request access via Steam later this afternoon!
    • Personally, I’ve found that it’s usually worth investing in the infrastructure you don’t want to replace later, especially cabling. Running Cat6A (or better, depending on your needs) during an upgrade is relatively inexpensive compared to having to re-cable a few years down the road. For switches I try to balance current specs with realistic growth. If my budget allows it Ill choose switches with higher uplink speeds which leaves room for expanding later on, but I don’t necessarily overspend on access ports if the endpoints won’t benefit from them anytime soon. One lesson I’ve learned is that planning for scalability pays off. It’s much easier to add devices, VLANs, or higher-bandwidth workloads when your network infrastructure already supports it than to replace hardware later.  What is your budget like?
    • I hate the term, "future-proof." We saw it back in the 90's / 2000's, if not before. You cannot future-proof anything, since there is no definition of how far into the future you plan on prepping for. Best idea is to tell us what you currently have and what its use is at the moment, and we can then offer ideas about some areas that might need an upgrade and other areas that can be left alone.
    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
