Apple's iTunes an outlaw in Norway

Recommended Posts

PWNT!

Oh, wait...it's Norway. What is that? Like 1/100th of Apple's overall iTS sales (not to mention Apple doesn't make a profit from the iTS)? Yea, not pwnt.

It's only the iTS that locks you into the iPod. The iPod can play any other music file that isn't DRM'd, and that's because Apple obviously isn't going to license out something like PlaysForSure for no reason. Obviously people love the iTS or else these suits wouldn't be coming up, so at least one of Apple's products is high quality.

Hopefully it sets out a precedent for other European countries to follow.

itunes and the ipod should be regarded as a single product. opening up their DRM would defeat the very purpose of DRM. Europeans really **** me off with their communist, or is that socialist?, attitudes.

Allowing DRM to be compatible across many platforms will still allow the DRM to function without tying the user to one platform.

Not that I'm a huge fan of DRM, but still. The more choice the users have, the better.

If only the US DOJ would reopen the multitude of cases against MS. It's funny to me that an employee of MS would be complaining about the anti-competiitive practices of another company. You should look from within and fix your own problems first.

Oh yeah. Definitely because Brandon is on Microsoft's board of directors, right?

Imbecile.

You're American, aren't you?

It kind of sticks out...

He's right. It's their own product, they can f**k off.

If people don't like it, don't use it. Simple? Another example is WMP and Windows. How is it not fair to compeition if Microsoft puts in its own media player or not? ITS MICROSOFTS OPERATING SYSTEM! Not the EU's. Asshats.

Europe is coo coo.

I think you are coo coo. If Microsoft/Apple want to do business in Europe (and I guarantee that they do), they need to deal with the local laws. It really isn't that difficult concept to understand.

Eh, I think a media player and music service are different things.

Considering, any music service besides iTunes you can use whatever mp3 player you want.

They are just making up laws. Anyways, all this will blow by fine.

hmm strange, its not like apple's forcing the people in norway to buy songs from itunes. if they dont have ipod then why buy songs from itunes to begin with? its like saying the xbox 360 illegal because its games can only be played in the x360 and not ps3 and the wii and vice versa.

Microsoft has everyone crawling up their ass when something is anti competitive. Why should Apple, when the iPod and iTMS are essentially a monopoly, get away scot free? Its pretty lame all the music you buy from iTunes only works on an iPod, how is that fair on the consumer? Its just another way of locking people into their upgrade cycle.

They going after the Zune next?, it's pretty much the same (at least PlaysForSure had other people selling music via it)

Remember guys, monopoly != illegal, MS went to court because of illegal business practices, not because a lot of people used Windows.

For all those who don't get it, Apple has the largest market share of MP3 players, if someone wants to buy an iPod, and buy their music online, they are forced to buy from iTunes. There are other music stores such as Yahoo!, URGE or Rhapsody which might offer better deals than iTunes, but because Apple uses a closed format, people are forced to buy from iTunes. The iPod is one of the best MP3 players, but iTunes isn't really the best online music store. Why should someone be forced to use both when they only want one?

The reverse is that since iTunes is the most heavily advertised online music store, someone might buy a bunch of songs from there, then when they want to go buy an MP3 player, if they still want to listen to the music they bought, they have to buy an iPod.

It isn't fair to the consumer, and just because you don't mind, doesn't mean nobody does.

    • Microsoft released new Defender update for Windows 11, 10, Server ISO installations by Sayan Sen Microsoft releases new Windows Defender update packages very frequently to protect against various newly discovered malware. Once a while every three months or so, the company also pushes out these updates to Windows images (WIM and VHD) and ISOs, that are used to install Windows. Hence with the newest Windows 11 update available via the official MCT tool, you should get these definitions. This update package is necessary as a Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries. Aside from better security, these updates can also provide improved performance benefits in some cases. When a new Windows installation is set up, there may be a temporary security risk due to outdated Microsoft Defender protection in the OS installation images. This happens because the antimalware software included in these images might not be up to date. Thus Microsoft says that these updated definitions essentially help close this protection gap. Microsoft delivered the latest security definitions for Windows images via security intelligence update version 1.445.323.0. The Defender package version is also the same. It applies to Windows 11, Windows 10 ESU, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Win 10 Ent LTSC 2019, Win 10 Ent LTSB 2016, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Microsoft writes: "This package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signature versions in the OS installation images to following versions: Platform version: 4.18.26040.7 Engine version: 1.1.26040.8 Security intelligence version: 1.447.236.0" From Microsoft's security bulletin, we learn that the security intelligence update version 1.447.236.0 was released early last month and adds threat detections for various malware like trojan, backdoor exploits, ransomware, stealers, AutoKMS, and more. For those wondering, the latest intelligence update is version 1.451.297.0 at the time of writing.
