partyboy
Hello, Just posting to get peoples views on the Canon A640, is there anyone here who has one and can comment? I am a beginner looking to get into Photography and this camera is on my very short list and it I can raise a little more cash then maybe the G7. Thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/532805-canon-a640/ Share on other sites
former1
I've got a G7 and all I can say is that it's an absolute dream to use. I had an EOS 350D but that got stolen, and honestly don't see anything the G7 can't do that 350D could (other than have a large option of lenses). As for the A640 I've never really used one so can't offer advice, but I do know that the canon powershot series are an excellent product range. Pink Floyd Veteran Posted January 25, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 25, 2007 Personally, I don't like. Why? Smaller sensor compared to other with 1/2.5 or even better with 1/1.8 The 640 has a 1/3 :( Also, the camera is too new to have coments from other users. At least, dpreview doesn't have any comments at all Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/532805-canon-a640/#findComment-588259996 Share on other sites

6785077276
I have the A620 which is similar to the A640. I use it as a backup for my Canon 400D. ISO 400 is pretty clean with regards to digital noise. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/532805-canon-a640/#findComment-588267942 Share on other sites
turkishdelight
I was deciding between the G7 and the A640 and went for the A640 because of its flip/twist screen. It really does make macro, self-portrait, and tricky-angle shots much easier. Also, the A640 uses AA batteries, which are much more convenient for me than the proprietary one most other cameras use. Oh, and if you want exposure lock, program shift, FEL, etc. they're all available (though not really documented) on the A640. The 1cm close focus is fun, though I find that the camera can sometiems struggle to lock focus in macro mode. Then again, if you take a lot of telephoto shots, want easy access to ISO and other controls (and E-TTL flash), go for the G7. If you want the convenient screen and common batteries, get the A640. Oh, and it's more affordable. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/532805-canon-a640/#findComment-588269472 Share on other sites
metro
I have the A620 which is similar to the A640. I use it as a backup for my Canon 400D. ISO 400 is pretty clean with regards to digital noise. I have the same, and while I am satisfied with it I am not too fond of the noise that I get at night time which is when I mainly shoot. Noise Ninja does a great job in removing most of the noise though. I guess I can't complain for what I paid, $210USD brand new. For the money it is a great little camera and will be a nice backup for when I get my DSLR.
