ATI list specs and prices of first six X2800 cards

Recommended Posts

ATI has listed some of its first DirectX 10 offerings with specs and prices. Topping the list is the X2800XTX, with a 750 MHz core clock and a Gigabyte of GDDR4 running at 2.2 GHz on a 512 bit bus. Like Nvidia's new cards, it features 128 shaders and an 80nm architecture. The card will initially be going for 600 USD. A dual card christened the X2800XTX2 has also been announced, and is said to be running two 575MHz cores and a Gigabyte of GDDR4 at 2GHz. However, due to the nature of the design, the memory bus has been cut back to 256 bits, rather than 512, and it will only feature 96 shaders. A 512 Megabyte version of the single XTX running the same clocks will also be available for 550 USD.

The next card in line is the X2800XT. Unfortunately this card is slated to run GDDR3 and sports less impressive speeds. The core will run at 600 MHz, and the 512 MBs of memory at 1.8 GHz. It will also only run on a 256 bit bus, with 96 shaders. However, the card will sell for 500 USD, one hundred less than the flagship XTX.

Also unveiled was the X2800XL, listed at 400 USD with 512 Megabytes of GDDR3 and 96 shaders. And last but not least is the X2800GTO, selling for 300 USD and sporting 256MB of 256-bit GDDR3 with 96 shaders as well. All in all, its a formidable lineup, and hopefully one that will help to bring the price of DirectX 10 gameplay down to a reasonable level for most gamers.

Wow... apparently I must be cheap because 400USD for a starting price is hardly what I'd call reasonable. Thats 469.28 in canuckistan funds and with a 14% tax on top of that its 534.98. For the base model! Reasonable? I find that rediculous.

Its the base model for the top line :p

At least you won't have to pay UK prices, we pay whatever you pay in dollars in pounds which suck a$$ frankly. Man i can't believe how expensive graphics cards are getting, i could buy 2 x core2 duo 6600 for less than 1 graphics card.

madness

its not that bad. It used to be that way (as an example, the PS3 was $300, but we payed ?200), but really, since the euro, that has changed. E.g - the 320MB 8800GTS is $300, or ?200.

I'll wait for a better source to come around. I can't stand ATI's naming scheme. I just wish nvidia and ati could try to have similar names for similar gfx cards.

Funny you say that because I'm the complete opposite I can't stand Nvidia's naming scheme, I love ATI's, its quite simple and easy to understand.

Get an Xbox 360 :D. Jk!

On a serious note, whats with these prices going up and up. I mean I know it is top of the line product and brand new but seriously if people have to shell out $500USD every year for a new graphics card there are going to be a lot of pockets with holes soon.

Do you guys think a 550 W power supply can handle this 600 dollar monster?

That really depends if it's a good quality brand-name psu (Antec, Seasonic etc.) or some no-name garbage. In the latter case, it will most likely go up in flames from overload.

Same here. nVidia's naming scheme is hideous sick.gif

I find nVidias easy to understand. First number is the generation and the second seems to depend on the type of card it is. So x200/x600 are budget cards, x800 is usually the first release of a generation, and x900 seems to be a much later and refined release (that's how I understand it anyway). Not that hard to understand.

Never taken much notice of ATi so they just seem like random numbers to me. How does their numbering scheme work?

People don't have to have a new graphics card every year. If you are a die hard gamer and must have the cutting edge stuff then you gotta realise its an expensive hobby... Otherwise its just plain stupid.

Pretty soon video cards will be seperate computers. They will sit on top of CPU towers and have a PCI "bridge card" that goes from the EGP (external graphics processor) to the PC and then out to the monitor, all connected by fiber optic cables or some other ultra-high-speed interface. An EGP will have components which can be easily upgraded (CPU, memory, etc.), therefore extending the life of the ~$1200 device.

But the framerates and the detail........ :woot:

    • Thanks, Sony and Nintendo, you effectively killed platform-agnostic gaming. Long gone are the days when you could wish to play a specific game on whatever platform you were. Now, you have to buy the hardware just to play that single game. What, you're only interested in THAT game and nothing more? Bad luck, suck it and buy our console.
    • The AI data centers need it more than us so...let them gobble it all up at that price!
    • "CRAZIER than ever!" Crazy Taxi: World Tour is officially coming soon by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sega announced it is working on bringing back some of its classic franchises in 2023, and while it has taken some time, the company finally gave fans a look at one of these new projects at the Xbox Games Showcase today, which turned out to be a brand-new Crazy Taxi entry. Watch the debut trailer above, which has snippets of gameplay in between the cinematic bits while blasting a track from The Offspring. Dubbed Crazy Taxi World Tour, this installment is aptly being described as being "CRAZIER than ever!" The director behind the original, Kenji Kanno, is helming this new entry as well, which will come with access to five new cities to drive in, competitive multiplayer modes, a vehicle customization system, and more. Axel is returning as a protagonist as well, but this time a mystery driver is offering him the opportunity to take his adventures to the streets in other countries. This will involve Axel chasing down masked villains that have somehow stolen his taxi, which means even more extreme missions and challenges to overcome. "From transporting passengers at top speed to tackling unique side missions and odd jobs across dynamic maps, there are countless ways to drive crazy and rake in big money," says Sega about this new installment after over 20 years. "Perform outrageous drifts, catch insane air, and drive at crazy speeds across five different cities as you work to deliver passengers and complete a variety of missions and challenges." The studio has even confirmed an in-game Arcade Mode that players will be able to access containing the original games for plenty of nostalgic action. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently slated to release sometime in 2027 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
    • This and Crazy Taxi are the two games that interested me the most from this showcase.
