Well...

Im not a big fan of those "definitive" threads...the idea just seems stupid, since you can just head over to a site like Softpedia or Download.com or Betanews and just do some searching and read reviews.

Unfortunately, none of those sites has something similar to a definitive thread...i.e. a page dedicated to listing and reviewing every app out there.

There is SpywareWarrior.com, they have a whole list of programs you should AVOID...lol.

If someone wants to create the thread, I shall contribute to it. I dont feel like looking like the idiot who creates the thread then gets shafted by the mods.

I am personally very reluctant to add yet more "Definitive" threads to the list we have here already. The thing is - where will it all stop? If we add Spyware, do we then need to add Torrent clients? Video Conversion? The list could go on and on and on. We've already got 5 stickied threads on this forum already - I don't want to be adding more unless there is a specific need for it.

Although, having said all of this, if there is enough demand, I would be willing to edit the Antivirus thread to make it a combined Antivirus/Spyware poll.

hi,

from kinetix63:

What ??????? I'm definitely interested by such threads, and polls .... reading all reviews is often tedious.

And you know what ? I've tried many antivirus, and read many reviews before coming to the conclusion that NOD32 is the best antivirus.

If I was aware there was a poll here, I wouldn't have lost so much times.

Now, I'm looking for the best anti-spyware, for peace of mind.

well,

there's a led that report that my PC is almost in a constant disk activity ....

I was thinking, that a spyware or a trojan might be the cause, but spybot report nothing ...

so if it exists a better antispyware/ anti-trojan than spybot , let me know

cheers

hi,

Frankly, I don't know why he said that "it was not me that said that" (and he's a moderator !) ,

so I just gave up

Could it possibly be because you suggested I said something that I didn't? I've quoted the posts for you below. The quote you suggested I made was by Tokar, as is as follows:

Well...

If you read the posts you'll find I actually said the following:

Although, having said all of this, if there is enough demand, I would be willing to edit the Antivirus thread to make it a combined Antivirus/Spyware poll.

Which I do believe suggests that I am open to the possibility of having a definitive thread if there is sufficient demand - or by re-jigging the current antivirus poll to make it a bit more all encompassing.

Am I being unfair here?

Soooooooorry! I attributed something to the wrong personn.

Anyway, both kinetix63 & Tokar are "reluctant" to "definitive threads", and that's the main idea I wanted to keep.

Sorry, for the confusion. Now, it's harder to defend my point of view :pinch: (i.e what's wrong, with these "definitive threads" , want more)

I am open to the possibility of having a definitive thread if there is sufficient demand

ok, ok, ok ,

kinetix63: that is the mistake that a lot of people and sites makes. That being the mixing of antispy programs with antivirus programs. They are two entirely different types of programs.

One removes malicious files with the intent of doing harm, while the other removes malicious files with the intent of delivering ads, harvesting information, and making your computer a source for deliverying ads to other people.

True, some AV programs remove spyware, but their initial intents are to remove viruses and the sort.

Its like the rectangle and square thing.

A square is a rectangle because it has four sides, all of them connected at 90 degree angles, and 2 sets of 2 sides of equivalent length.

A rectangle is not a square, though, because while it has four sides and four 90 degree angles, it doesnt have 4 equivalent sides.

So while antivirus programs may be antispyware programs because they are built to remove spyware as well as viruses, antispyware programs are not antivirus programs because they arent built to remove viruses. In short, you could include antivirus programs in a definitive Antispyware list because of their antispyware capabilities, but I really dont think you can amend antispyware programs to the antivirus list.

Im more objectionate to a combined antivirus/antispy list than i am to dedicated antispy list.
