[Release] CD Art Display RC6

Recommended Posts

...

1) Show the total time of the song next to the current time like (2:01 / 5:23)

2) Scroll the song text/artist. This is because some Indian songs/artists have humongous names and when wrapped around it doesn't look as pretty.

3) Hotkeys for Volume Up, Volume Down, Repeat (within playlist, song), Shuffle?

4) Lyrics Windows To be Always On Top

5) Is there a way to automatically tag lyrics to the played song if lyrics are blank? I am not sure think EvilLyrics with an script might do this but its UI is not as good. (If not, how can it be done elegantly?)

6) I haven't tried the Album Art feature yet but does the song have to be in the current folder of the song (if so with what type of filename) or tagged within the song?

7) Is there a way to tag multiple art covers within the song? If so how? (If not, how can it be done elegantly?)

8) What skin would you recommend? I'm a sucker for displaying the maximum amount of information per song while still looking pretty.

...

1) you can use tags for that if you're using the last build ("Control Panel>Notifier Text"): (:00) / (%tracktime%)

2) not possible for now but you can set the text area, use just one line, a smaller font and the text will wrap

3) I'll see if all supported players can accept such hotkeys

4) nice suggestion

5) no

6) you can set CAD to search and save the cover in any folder you want; see Help for details...

7) no, CAD won't touch any tag

8) there are some nice skins out there; check DeviantArt (Winamp>Modern) or http://www.closetosoftware.com/?s=cadskins

Great update and awesome improvements u done there carlos

keep up the good work (Y)

Thanks! :)

it doesnt support chinese text =/

CAD does not support full unicode due a VB6 limitation.

just trying out the test build, Great stuff in there. But the right click doesn't seem to bring up the menu for me.

Menu: if you set the toolbar to show on mouse over the right click is disable (at least for now) because the first button will bring the context menu. Anyway do you really think it's necessary to maintain the right click too? Note that if you disable the toolbar the context menu will be back.

Thank you all for your feedback! :)

I was wondering if there is a way to improve the shadow under the lettering, for example this is a similar app (coversutra I think) on the mac:

untitled2po6.jpg

It's a small detail, but I think it would make a difference.

A soft shadow is coming! It'll have some limitation but it'll work in most of the skins. Skinned progress bar will come too!

CAD RC6 Build 952 (24Apr2007)

Thanks to LaVolpe CAD has now a soft shadow/halo option!

Thank you all for trying it and please post your feedback even if you didn't find anything wrong!

Have fun! :D

This is a nice upgrade. Hmm, for feedback, maybe you can add:

1) Scrollable Titles/Artists/Albums

2) Support for Repeat (All/One/Off) and Shuffle

3) Organization of Skins where the newer features are displayed and the older ones are not.

4) Make the cover/title/artist/album three times as big for the first three seconds of the song and then revert back to its mini size. That way it's easier to notice the song change and info.

Thanks for adding always on top for lyrics.

hmm wierd, the text area is already pretty big...

Also is there any chance you could bring back the volume control? I found it very useful to just click the CAD then scroll the mouse wheel to change the volume. And is it possible to make control volume just when the mouse rolls over CAD??

thanks.

@ acies,

You're right. The shadow is cut. Just go to "Control Panel>Text" and set -5 (minus five) to the Line 1 "Pad Left".

Your screenshot setting was very helpful. Thanks.

Finally you can set a smaller "Text area" Height. Just the necessary to show the text. Maybe 80 instead 300.

The text area is indeed an in memory bitmap so the smaller the size the better should be the performance.

Regarding volume: I'll see what should be tweaked so please wait for the next build.

See initial post for details. :)

I sent the email. Feel free to post it.

Another thing; I was making a skin with the toolbar under the text, rather than on the cover. it looked nice, but the toolbar only appears on mouse over on the cover. Is it possible to make it appear on mouse over where the toolbar is?? If that makes sense. Also "Always Visible" option didn't seem to work.

Thanks!

The toolbar will only appear on mouse over cover/case area.

Right now the best way to place the toolbar at the left side is to create a "case.png" with a bigger canvas at left. When "Always visible" the toolbar is drawn over case/cover area. This area is the "case.png" dimensions. I hope I was clear.

Thank you for the skin! :)

Finally updated to this new build and there is quite a few things I don't really like. The toolbar buttons for one. Now I can't right click on the cover. I was so used to that and now toolbar buttons. Really weird to me, especially when I used to right click to search for covers manually.

Also, it doesn't seem to be saving my position on the desktop and restarts itself everytime when I close it. I updated to the newest winamp earlier and noticed that CDAD wasn't working anymore, figured this update would fix it, but it didn't. So it's not working anymore for me, plus all these new problems I'm experiencing. Is there a newer build?

:::Okay, so if you disable buttons, you can right click again. :). Now to just fix the ID3 tags and position on desktop and I guess I will like it. I'm also having problems changing skins.

CD Art Display RC6 Build 1116 (08May2007) Got that build and same problems. I wonder if it has to do with the new Winamp update.

    • Microsoft Weekly: Surface Laptop Ultra, Windows 11 context menus, Build 2026 recap, and more by Taras Buria This week's news recap is here, with Microsoft announcing the new Surface Laptop Ultra, fresh chips from NVIDIA for Windows on ARM, a no-build week, fixes for Windows 11's context menus, gaming news, reviews, and more. Quick links: Windows 10 and 11 Windows Insider Program Updates are available Reviews are in Gaming news Great deals to check Windows 11 and Windows 10 Here, we talk about everything happening around Microsoft's latest operating system in the Stable channel and preview builds: new features, removed features, controversies, bugs, interesting findings, and more. And, of course, you may find a word or two about older versions. At Computex 2026, together with NVIDIA, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful laptop to date, powered by NVIDIA's RTX Spark processor. Details about this computer are currently scarce, as Microsoft has only revealed certain parts of its specs. So far, we know that the computer has a 15-inch mini-LED display, a rich set of ports, a powerful processor, and all-day battery life. It also comes with a new wallpaper, which you can already download here in full resolution. The Surface Laptop Studio is not the only NVIDIA-powered Surface, which Microsoft unveiled this week. At Build 2026, the company also debuted the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, an odd-shaped desktop with a 20-core NVIDIA Grace CPU and an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores and fifth-generation Tensor Cores with FP4 precision, connected via the NVIDIA NVLink-C2C chip-to-chip interconnect for high performance. According to Microsoft, it can run models with up to 120 billion parameters locally without relying on cloud GPU infrastructure. These two new Surface devices are likely to cost quite a lot, and for those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is preparing the next-gen Qualcomm-powered Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. This week, details about these two devices leaked in plenty of detail. Other announcements at Build 2026 include the following: Microsoft unveils new security tools for IT admins and developers building AI products Microsoft announces Scout, an OpenClaw-powered personal agent for enterprise customers Microsoft unveils MAI-Thinking-1 reasoning and MAI-Code-1 coding models Microsoft announced a new Windows 11 native command-line utility Microsoft unveils Majorana 2 quantum chip, accelerating commercial timeline to 2029 Microsoft believes that AI agents will eventually replace apps through Project Solara Microsoft introduces Web IQ, a Bing-powered search system built for AI agents Last week, Microsoft released a new Experimental build, which introduced a major Start menu upgrade. It now lets you toggle off specific parts of the menu without affecting other features, resize the menu, and hide additional UI elements. We published a closer look here, so if you want to know what Microsoft is cooking without enrolling in the Insider program and installing unstable builds, check it out. Speaking of new features, many users are very annoyed about the way Microsoft delivers them. Recently, a frustrated user shared their experience with gradual rollouts, and even Microsoft engineers admitted there is a flaw in the system that prevents new features from applying properly. One of those new features includes the ability to uninstall AI models in Windows 11 with a single click. Windows 11 is finally getting fixes for its slow context menus. Marcus Ash from Microsoft confirmed that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are going to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." According to Marcus, Microsoft will share more details soon. Windows Insider Program Windows 11 preview builds, released last week, are now available for download as standalone ISO files. These days, Microsoft regularly pushes new images, allowing users to clean-install its recent Windows 11 preview builds faster and easier. Sadly, Microsoft did not release new Windows 11 preview builds this week. Come back next time. Microsoft is preparing new features for Teams. Later this month, the messenger will receive a new download manager with auto-dismissing notifications, reducing clutter and making the overall experience less annoying when dealing with downloads. Mozilla released Firefox 151.0.3, a new bug-fixing update for the browser. It is a small release, which fixes problems with pasting into text fields and the oversized VPN button on the toolbar. However, the front-facing USB Type-C is data-only, and there are some quirks with the computer's memory, so check out the full review. The AMD RX 9070 GRE has been released worldwide, and we published a benchmark review comparing this powerful graphics card to the RX 9070 XT, 7800 XT, the NVIDIA RTX 5070, and RTX 4070. It has solid, balanced performance, plenty of RAM, and low temperatures, but watch out for mediocre ray tracing performance and not the best efficiency. Also, we reviewed the Cuktech 10 Ultra, a compact, high-power charger with four ports and a big display full of various stats. This tiny charger can pull nearly 120W and spread that power according to each connected device's needs. It also comes with a high-quality 240W cable, three power modes, and retractable prongs. • Let's goooooooo! I've been loving the entries so far! I still have to finish Rebirth (things have been busy!)! Excited for this next installment.
    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
