obsolete_power
I installed the update and now my windows media player crashes instantly when launched. I tried uninstalling the damn patch and also system restore to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I really want to murder something right about now... raskren
Are you using Realtek Audio? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551765-vista-update-kb925902-screwed-wmp/#findComment-588456529 Share on other sites
obsolete_power
Are you using Realtek Audio? Yes I am but I have not installed their drivers. I am using the windows vista drivers for it. I checked the event viewer and everytime I start WMP it logs the following error: Faulting application wmplayer.exe, version 11.0.6000.6324, time stamp 0x4549b52a, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bd80, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000494c4, process id 0x16e4, application start time 0x01c77873a64cf035. obsolete_power
I was looking at the time stamp for the update and the first crash of WMP. The first crash happened right after the update. +Tantawi Subscriber² Posted April 6, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted April 6, 2007 This error is unrelated to the Vista hotfix I believe, since I installed that and it's running fine. Try this to change the way mplayer starts up... Make the shortcut points to: "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Preftech:1 /Task:NowPlaying Instead of: "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Preftech:1 This will make it start in the Now Playing tab instead of the Library, that may help isolate this factor in finding the solution. Also install this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551765-vista-update-kb925902-screwed-wmp/#findComment-588456559 Share on other sites
obsolete_power
I tried this and it still stops responding on launch. May I also add that when I try to stream a video off any page that uses WMP it also crashes. obsolete_power
Thanx for that thread. The initial person certainly has the same problem as I do but then this other person comes in with a sidebar problem and it gets confusing from there as I don't see a fix to the problem, I think it just started working again for the sidebar person. y2kboy23
The past few days, my WMP won't seem to play MP3's in an AVI file. Seeing this thread makes me wonder if that update could have caused. obsolete_power
I honestly am lost for words. It rarely happens that there is a problem I can't fix but this just leaves me speechless. The only thing I have installed in that period of time was that update. My WMP started doing this right after the update. I conclude that it must have been the update...but I am not 100% sure. Preppy Veteran Posted April 6, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2007 I can help you sort this out... that's the SetColor crash, near as I can tell from the information provided. Given that data, what's the value for "CurrentSkin" under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins ? If I had bet a $1 that it was "Windows XP.wmz", would I be correct? obsolete_power
CurrentSkin is not there. This is what I see under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551765-vista-update-kb925902-screwed-wmp/#findComment-588456827 Share on other sites
Preppy Veteran Posted April 6, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2007 Click on "Skins" directly, not the subkeys. :) EDIT: Following up via Messenger. Preppy Veteran Posted April 6, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2007 This was a crash in SatelliteTVForPC.exe - he's removing that and it'll fix him up. An alternative would be to only run WMP in skin mode, but that's kind of dumb. I'll send mail to them alerting them. Anybody else hitting that crash (fault bucket number 346645088) would likely also want to either uninstall or follow up with them. MichaelO
CurrentSkin is not there. This is what I see under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins: I have no problems with the update. I see you just won a $1 bet. You gonna collect? :woot: Edited April 13, 2007 by MichaelO Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551765-vista-update-kb925902-screwed-wmp/#findComment-588474269 Share on other sites
Preppy Veteran Posted April 13, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 13, 2007 Haha. It was "If I had bet a $1 that it was Windows XP.wmz"... Plus I spent $40 out of my own pocket to buy my own copy of SatelliteTVforPC (and verify that they were doing something absolutely horrible). :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551765-vista-update-kb925902-screwed-wmp/#findComment-588474392 Share on other sites
