Try booting into that. Change the startup disk to os9 while you are in there. Boot to os9, then change the startup disk to your OSX disk. If still nothing, reinstall i guess. How long does it sit there? We talking a minute or two? Or 30?

Hold the option key down while the computer boots up. You should be greeted with a screen showing a representation of each OS that the computer can start from. Choose the one that resembles the classic icon. When (if) you are able to start in os 9, goto the Apple Menu and then Control Panels and then Startup Disc. Alternatively, you should be able to start up from the Mac OS X cd (or the OS 9 cd) by putting the cd in the drive tray, and holding the C key while the computer starts up. akuma1
Here's a shot of where the Startup Disc control panel should be in OS 9.
Wickedkitten Veteran Posted December 17, 2002 Veteran Share Posted December 17, 2002 you might want to try zapping the pram a couple of times before you do anything drastic like reinstalling. Sheesh you ex-windows pats I swear :p That's just taking the easy way out. Also try looking at the crash and system startup logs while you're in os9 to see what is causing it to stall. sparkleytone
cmd+opt+P+R on boot...let it chime three times or so... also boot into single user mode (cmd+S) and run fsck -y until it says the file system is fine.
