Leopard Delayed until October

Recommended Posts

A year and a couple months at most, and that's assuming MS ever officially announced a 2005 release. This fact does NOT make your argument any better. They're the same argument, yet you'll praise apple and bash MS for doing the same things.

For a start I don't "bash" Microsoft, I like Microsoft and I had my copy of Vista on launch day. Thanks for the generalization though.

If you saw my first post in this topic, I'm certainly not praising Apple for the delay, especially not since it?s (so they say) due to the iPhone, which I couldn't care less about.

And finally, I quite well remember potential release dates for Longhorn being implied from about 2003 (maybe even 2002) onwards. Nothing ever official maybe, but they were still there.

Are they not big enough to develop two products at the same time?

Thats what I was thinking. I spose it depends on exactly what the iPhone OS is...if it really is semi-full implementation of OSX then I could understand why it might require more developers.

But did they for Windows Mobile OS 1.0-6.0? It's a PHONE.

Revenue wise, Apple rely on their gadgets. Even tho it is a phone, the Ipod and Iphone market is much much larger (potentially for the Iphone) than the macos market ever will be. So what if its only a phone? From a business point of view, it makes sense to push the project thats going to bring you most revenue.

I don't mind delays, I mean they never "really" announced a definite date anyway, but it is annoying. And it is better than getting a half baked version.

What seems really strange to me was that the last rumour that said leopard would be delayed was batted away in an interview (can't remember with whom) as if it was silly, and made it sound like there were on course.

Well if MS couldnt develop SP2 while working on Longhorn i don't see why Apple is expected to work on the iPhone and Leopard at the same time.....kinda sad because i wish they would have spent more time on OSX than a stupid phone but this will be their next cash cow.....

I'm disappointed with the new date....I was hoping to pick up a 24" imac with leopard but i guess it will have to wait.....

Same here. I planned on buying a 24" iMac after the WWDC was over, obviously I was hoping it would come with Mac OS X Leopard and the new iLife. :(

LMAO, apple will "give any excuse for a celebration", AKA, apple will do anything to not make them look stupid, support for iphone, absolute rubbish... Look at ms, they had other projects and reassigned engineers but they still met earlier deadlines and they cant blame it not having enough time to have a driver being written, look at the stuff that is support in win 98 or xp, hell my laptop is running memphis (98 beta) and supports stuff xp doesnt even support, 20 moniters! and firewire which "APPARENTLY" wasnt invented till 2000 and something, even DVDs which werent "APPARENTLY" invented till 2000 / 2001, its all in the setup text, they removed the features and the feature text for 98, why!?

DVDs were going on sale in 1997... And I know the first iPod was firewire, so it had to have at least been fairly common in 2001.

If Leopard is still half ass looking, it's because of the iPhone.

I just hope that the iPhone becomes "the new iPod" of the cellphones, because it it doesn't become that popular, I am so going to whine about the decsion to prioritize the iPhone.

That gives me one more reason to hate cellphones....

You can't possibly compare an OS point release with a simple phone. Just accept it, apple is making lame excuses again which is not rare if you look into recent past (iPod virus, charging for 802.11n driver, itunes-don't upgrade to vista) and so on.

Yes because a few months delay is just the same as a, uh, how many years was Windows delayed by again?

That's not the point.

The point is, Apple tore a strip off Microsoft for delaying Vista but is now delaying it's competing product. Somehow Apple will make this delay Ok but still criticize Microsoft for their delay. The reason for the delays don't matter and the time frame doesn't matter. The point is Apple is now doing what it so harshly criticized Microsoft for.

meh it sucks its being delayed, specially for the iphone i couldn't care less about. Granted Microsoft did strip out all the features that where going to make vista amazing and awesome...Thankfully apple isn't stripping features just to improve the deadline. Its done when its done, however i am disappointed that they are delaying it for the iphone.

3 Month delay vs like 3 years lol!

But seriously this news sucks, oh well atleast we will see what the secret features are at WWDC.

It's easy to drop features for apple since nobody knows about the "secret features". They can be amazing 3D display or a lame dictionary widget. Who knows ? :p

Leopard is delayed for the 2nd time I think. So more than three months.

    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
