OMG OMG - .avi support!

must upgrade RIGHT NOW!

I really <3 Sony right now :-)

Can't belive they put this in 1.92 and not in 2.00

Guess 2.00 is going to have in-game XMB  or would that be 1.95 ;)

edit:

lies...

there is still no AVI support :(

edit2:

so it doesn't seem like much changed (if anything at all?), aside from compatability with PS2 games

# New for 1.92: Playability status with the PS3? system has changed for some PlayStation?2 format titles. To check on the latest status, visit the search site for compatible titles (coming soon).

aside from that, they said they 're-visited' some stuff from 1.90

everything else seems to be a l:( :(

man.. and I got REALLY excited when I read "AVI support&quo:( :(

I'm still waiting for when I can play my own music in games, but that's upto developers and not Sony right?

While the game developers could implement something so you could access your harddrive songs while playing - it is upto Sony to make XMB available in games.

Id rather have the second option :p

so is anyone else being prompted for firmware 1.93?

I just turned on my PS3 for the 1st time today... and BAM - another update

it's been a week since 1.92, and I don't even see word of 1.93 on Sony's site

anyone else prompted for this?

now for some reasons I can't update to 1.93

it gets to 4% the gives me some network error - enable to connect to server

here is some stuff I found about this update

"Taking into account customer feedback and some internal testing, we will be making available in the next few days a firmware update for the PS3 (1.93) that fixes the network disconnect issue that some of you have experienced as a result of downloading Firmware 1.92. In addition, we are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested.

The main feature we’ve added with the recent updates for PSP is the ability to set themes on your PSP. Over time we will be providing themes on PlayStation.com, our official PSP site and through PLAYSTATION Store. You can download themes based on some of our popular titles."

edit:

just a quick update

Playstation 3 firmware version 1.93 is now available for download. However, it seems that people are having connectivity issues in an attempt to download the newest firmware. The alternative source takes you to the official Playstation forums were you can read accounts of download issues.

Also, here is the following error statement I received while downloading:

An error occurred during the download operation. A connection to the server cannot be established.(80028E07)

please refer to this article if you are having problems downloading the new firmware.

Simple fix about the 4% issue that people have reported working:

Try turning off the unit and leave it in standby mode. Hold the power buttle on the front until the unit beeps twice. Turn back on and try again.

Hey guys, I've noticed that recently my LOUD fanned PS3 is not that LOUD anymore. Could this be because of the firmware updates that do "nothing"?

Like if I played any demo for 15-30 minutes my fan would be definitely ANNOYING loud, but now it stays pretty consistent, it's enough that I can hear it, but it's not annoying. I'd say it stays at about Speed 2 or 3 where it used to go at full-speed before... :D *touchwood* I'm very happy at this!

Maybe the hardware has been broken in now?

any indication on when the next update is coming?

...or what will it contain?

Not a thing so far, Sony said they would be releasing updates less often and that they would be making it better than downloading a giant files every time, but since that not a thing has been said, nothing leaked, no rumours of future features.

I assumed the next update would come when In-game XMB comes around.

I find that 2.17 now turns off the controller when it isn't used for a while. Which is a great addition

No, that's been there for a while. It just turns off a lot later than you'd expect. The 360 turns off controllers after 5 minutes of inactivity. On the PS3, I think it's about half an hour. No biggie, as they last a good amount of time.

    • I think every American should have a course in a 'dry sense of humour' at school; and perhaps 'using sarcasm in jest' oh, and also 'the use or irony in humour'. Slapstick is just about all Americans can understand. It's a pity, as this is the most basic of humour, that requires no thought at all. It's hilarious to watch a whole room collapse with laughter while yanks sit scratching their heads...
    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
