Only 244 Genuine Windows Vista's Sold in China

Recommended Posts

Microsoft spent millions of dollars advertising its next generation OS 'Windows Vista' in China, in fact the IT juggernaut threw up the biggest Vista Ad on the 421 meter high Jin Mao tower in Shanghai China. However after 2 weeks (Jan 19 to Feb 2) from launch Microsoft managed to sell a mere 244 copies of Windows Vista. Software piracy is rampant in the middle kingdom and a pirated version of Vista sells for a mere $1 on the streets. The following numbers are quoted by Windows Vista chief distributor in Bejing.

(I dont know how valid are this sources)

and about 12 in rest of world! :p

nah lol i use the evaluation period and reformat (i reformat monthly anyway)

(im buying it next week with my pay check...)

You format monthly?.... umm ok what ever floats your boat....umm..... I guess.

I'm still running on a december 04 install, runs great.

Yes it indeed is that cheap in China. However I dont trust these sources, and they usually have some problems. Genuine Vista ftw. Although this just goes to show that nomatter how much anti-piracy crap you cram into the system, the pirates will still pirate it. Just lower the price and remove the dpm (digital pirate management) and everyone wins.

See, what they aren't telling you is that those 244 copies of Vista were preinstalled on some system that was sold. lol.

Meh, more likely that it was a promo. Buy this new Hello Kitty buttplug and get a free copy of Vista.

Hello Kitty is Japanese.

244 more than I expected.

Best thing to do is for Microsoft to drop their prices to $1 in China, but every other country will be really ****ed for paying $500.

Microsoft pays about $20 USD in royalties due to patent lawsuits per copy of Vista sold.

Therefore, anything under about $30 is unsustainable as far as production is concerned- and they haven't even broke even yet.

Yes of course, as are we all...

since when does it take an actual paycheck to pay for Windows?

Plus, I'm sticking with Good ole' Mac OS X, running XP in Parallels.

    • It won't perform hugely better than the 3080 unless you're VRAM limited in games. Have you tried putting new thermal pads on them 3080 and giving it a good clean to see if you can regain your temps and overclock?
    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
