The new drag & drop Widgets feature is great. Sidebar customization is now a lot more user friendly.

One question: Can only make calls to other plugins from a widget? I use one widget on the left side of my site ot break out recent posts in the categories and then I use the last.fm plugin and a shoutbox on the right sidebar. I've been thinking about widgetizing my theme, but I'm just not sure it's worth it.

Yes, it does. My theme is not widgetized and it still works fine.

Perhaps if they were already using the plugin the new internal code is based off of. I have two sidebars hardcoded into my theme, though, and all is well.
