Starcraft 2 - Official!

The only thing I really want is to be able to have more then 200 troops per person and increase the troop limit on the map.

From what I can tell, the engine can handle a whole lot more than the old one could, so I'm sure you'll be satisfied.

I knew it was going to be StarCraft from the get go. I gotta say though, I am not that impressed with the media they released so far... I mean, look at whatever Command and Conquer was closest to 1998, and compare it to Tiberium Wars today. How much that series has evolved in every aspect is unbelievable. But StarCraft II just looks like... StarCraft re-skinned into 3D.

See the difference is Command and Conquer had more games in the series, spread over a longer period of time, to build its brand up. On top of that, despite a similar surplus in time between sequels, much like starcraft, Command and Conquer had generals to phase in the initial 3D move Command and Conquer took. Blizzard really only have WC III as a platform to try and phase in a 3d based SC2 which is a different brand and for the most part had mixed success. I personally dont have a problem with the graphics, but I suspect they have deliberately kept SC2 looking recongisiably like its original to keep that same feel rather then opt for a revolution and leaving fan with a SC2 that feels too different.

I guess the other problem is for those that arent die hard fans but enjoyed the first games, given they already have the storyline aspect of the game, and the gameplay aspects in the bag, I think after so long vast improvements in graphics wouldnt have been too much to expect.

But this is all moot anyway, because its going to be a popular game, even those that dont think the graphics are upto scratch with other current RTS competitors, chances are those ppl will buy the game anyway, not withstanding the fact that good RTS games arent that common and certainly arent frequently released. I guess I was just suggesting theres a reason why companies opt for Evolution of graphics over revolution and id suggest this is the policy Blizzard are taking in regards to the graphics (which do tend to look alot better in the HQ gamevids as opposed to the static pics).

20 minute long gameplay video, much better quality than anything we've seen yet mostly, though not in HD yet. That's Monday probably. But either way, its 20 mins of gameplay, and the last 4 minutes or so are nothing more than a giant zergfest.

Enjoy.

Superb. I now have a new love for the Protoss even though they were my favourite race in StarCraft.

Yesterday it said "Come back May 20th for the new gameplay video" or something like that. Now it just says "Coming soon". If you look at the date it was added it says 5.20.07, lol. Maybe they'll add it today.

It looks like they're using the Warcraft 3 engine and the old graphics along with it. I was expecting better.

It may be based on an enhanced WarCraft 3 engine, or maybe a totally new graphics engine.

Hm, how come this thread is dying off so quickly yet that crappy GTAIV thread is going strong? I despise GTA!! You would think that SC has more of a fanbase than GTA.

I was wondering the samething until I realized it. The onslaught of content is old now. Alot of people have seen the gameplay videos, cinematic cutscene, and the artwork trailer. The thread should spring back to life once new content is released.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Nvidia is your issue more so than linux itself. I did used it for a while with an old 1060 3gb, but using propietary drivers was kind of messy.

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
