I heard about this game over at WikiHow and thought Neowin would be a great place to play this!

To play the game, we'll need a maximum of 20 people.

Update: Our 20 players have been chosen and this game has now finished.

Our players are:

1. Astro Zombie

2. Quick Shot

3. Sesse

4. SacrificialSoldier

5. Hankyone

6. Shof

7. Ricky S.

8. Dave Almighty

The Rules

1. I will act as game moderator for this initial trial game.

2. Once we have decided who is playing, I will randomly assign people different characters. There are four types of character: Mafia (x4), sheriff (x1), doctor (x1), and townspeople.

3. The game is played as a series of 'day' and 'night' rounds. The game ends once either

a) the Mafia have been eliminated

b) the number of Mafia and townspeople is equal (Mafia win)

4. No players are told by the moderator who is which character (except for their own character of course).

Night Cycle

1. (First round only:) I will private message the Mafia members and inform them of the four people who are Mafia. Everybody outside of the Mafia will not be informed of its members.

2. The Mafia will then collaborate though private messaging to decide which player (of all the players) they would like to kill.

3. Once the Mafia have made a decision and the moderator informed, I will PM the doctor and ask him who he wants to save.

4. Should the doctor correctly choose the Mafia's victim, the victim will not be killed and remain in the game.

5. The moderator will then PM the sheriff and ask him for one person he suspects of being Mafia.

6. The moderator will either confirm or deny through PM whether or not the sheriff's suspect is Mafia or not.

7. If the Sheriff is right then that Mafia member is jailed and out of the game. If he is wrong then at least the sheriff knows that that person is not Mafia.

The night cycle will not be visible to most people as it is 'behind the scenes'. In the night cycle all players will only ever be informed of deaths, arrests, and attempted murders (when saved by the doctor).

Day Cycle

This is where the game gets really interesting and everyone gets involved.

1. Anyone who has died or been locked up cannot communicate with the remaining players.

2. Everybody (Mafia, sheriff, doctor, and townspeople) can discuss in this thread what they like about what has happened. People can admit to their characters or even lie about who they are (but be careful or you may get killed off/jailed in the next night cycle!). You can also accuse and defend who you like.

3. Please do not spoil the game by copying and pasting people's PMs into this thread, posting screenshots, etc. Only talk about your suspicions and accuse without literal evidence or the game could be spoiled.

4. The player most accused of being a Mafia member by the other players is subject to a vote.

5. If most people find the player guilty, the player is out of the game. If most people find the player innocent, the player remains and the next Night Cycle begins.

6. If a player is found guilty, the moderator will inform all other players as to his this players' true identity.

7. The day and night cycles will continue until the game ends. Again, this will be once either

a) the Mafia have been eliminated

b) the number of Mafia and townspeople is equal (Mafia win)

    • Windows 11 KB5094126 BSODing, freezing, forcing BitLocker lockout, breaks OneDrive, and more by Sayan Sen Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 last week as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. While Microsoft has so far not acknowledged any major problems with the release, some users online are running into problems. These range from OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. The most common one seems to be happening with HP systems wherein affected users say they hit 0xc0430001 BSOD (blue screen of death) error code after the KB5094126 update. We wonder if this could be related to the recent bug we covered on HP devices wherein the ongoing Secure Boot certificate updates are leading to similar issues. While we are not certain, users affected by this issue likely need to ensure that the boot.stl file is included on the installation media (such as a USB installer or ISO), if the above-mentioned dynamic updates are deployed. If this file is missing, computers may fail to boot from the installation media and could display the error 0xc0430001. This STL file is used by Secure Boot to verify that the boot files are trusted, so it must match the same Windows version and system architecture. To ensure the file is included, Microsoft recommends using the Update WinPE script, which automatically updates the image and handles the required files. Alternatively, you can manually copy the boot.stl file from the Windows\Boot\EFI folder on a Windows device and place it in the matching folder on your installation media before deploying the updated image. Aside from blue screening some users also note their systems have been freezing following the update. This could be happening to Lenovo PCs specifically. In the case of the OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, a user figured out that there could be a conflict with UAC. He explained: "Okay, so I did some digging, and in our environment KB5094126 breaks OneDrive and Dropbox in Explorer. I went through all our GPOs and found out that the combination of disabling UAC and having my user being a local admin breaks OneDrive in Explorer. ... If I enable UAC again, then it works, even with KB5094126 still installed." Hopefully, Microsoft will look into these issues. • It is when it's a desktop in my house though for a PC that's lightly used and not really important when it is. If it was a laptop, it would be a different story. The real solution is varied and begins starting at post #22 in that thread.
