"Windows Live Suite" Discovered

Recommended Posts

Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Writer are the three core desktop products for Windows Live. But we have reason to suspect they?ll all be rebranded to one, large program - called “Windows Live Suite”.

More after the break!

Found on Digg @ http://shufflestorm.com/?p=30

Seems like all the signs are pointing that way, I just hope they offer them as seperate downloads aswell. Although Mail + Messenger would be usefull, not too sure on Writer.

The suite is the new name for windows live dashboard (microsoft's google pack, which mysteriously died). Basically the 8.5 we have now is akin to you going to download the google toolbar for IE and now you get google pack which imediatly installs the google pack (invisibly) and then goes to install the toolbar right after that. In this case messenger 8.5 is inside the suite installer. At least thats my take on it and if im correct in this sense then the suite will offer up updates to your programs and offer up new things like toolbar, onecare, etc.

Not saying the concept may not be happening...but who knows if it will be "Windows Live Suite" lol

This will suck if true :( I don't want all three!

No worries -- I doubt they'd force feed the other clients if you only want Messenger and vice versa...

For those of you that installed WLM 8.5, go to the Program Files directory, then Windows Live folder, then the installer folder. You'll see an application called Dashboard but it doesn't launch. Signs of a possible Windows Live dashboard? And if it is, will they please incorporate my XBox Live Friends List to it? Messaging my friends from my desktop would be awesome.

I hope you were joking because it doesnt mean that kind of dashboard. the microsoft version of google's pack was called windows live dashboard and offered up windows live stuff in the same way google's pack offers up google's services.

You can view your friends list through WLM - you can message through XBox.com, but I still want the Games for Window Live type of dashboard as a program for my desktop.

And by dashboard, I know that was the name of Microsoft's google pack; however, I hope they include in it a program that is like a dashboard that ties together all my Live services (including XBox Live).

    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
    • Windows 11 is a big thumbs down from me. I used for a period of a few days while it was in insider and windows 10 was the main OS, and realised it wasn't for me. I am still waiting for Windows to be tolerable again, a shame as at one point I was very pro Microsoft.
    • Classic outlook, not only does it have a much fuller feature set, it doesn't include Microsoft attempting to sync my emails from my servers to theirs. If classic outlook is ever removed from office, and the version I paid for in 2021 stops working for some reason, I'll use Thunderbird.
