So You Want To Write For Neowin

Personally I think Rappy would make a great news mod or maybe even a Media Mod because of all the cool posts he does in that area. Plus he is a positive and long standing presence here at Neowin. (Y)

PS Rappy did not ask for this recommendation, so don't think bad of him because I recommend him (guilt by association LOL!). I just think he'd do a good job. :D

If you don't point them out, we can't fix them, now can we?

do you write in to your newspaper or magazines to tell them they got their grammer wrong, um no, a newsposter shoudl be able to write well enough, and have good grammer (i can't so wouldn't bother trying), or at the very least an 'editor' shoudl check it for grammer and spelling. usually if i start reading somethign with bad spelling or grammer, i won't even bother to finish reading, let alone let them know where they are wrong.

:p remember mate, always "an" before a vowel - an apple, an eye, but it's a tree as t is a consonant.

technically not quite always, i remember i got told of by one of our publications guys, i can't remember what it was now, but yeah i had to use an with a consonant

I like to be recognised by my fellow members for my effort! :)

You can't compare a forum's front page to a published periodical.

If it's a story that was a copy & paste, the grammar and spelling usually aren't checked - and technically we are quoting another news site anyways

if it's written in our own words, which the majority of news posts are, it is quite possible that it's a typo or was simply overlooked, mistakes happen (you made quite a few mistakes in your post right there)

I read most of the stories on the front page, and I rarely find mistakes, but when I do I fix them myself.

i agree with you, noones perfect, especially me, hence why i wrote in my post, "(i can't so wouldn't bother trying)"

I am just trying to emphasize that spelling and grammer is important for news sites and anyone selected should know the basics, or even better be fairly competant.

I am lazy so don't really bother too much with it, but when i have to i can.

most of the problems i have seen here (and yes i agree with you on that too, there arent a lot of them) could have been avoided with a simple spell check.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
