AutoPatcher 5.6 - "CORE" vs "FULL"

Recommended Posts

Sorry gents (and gentleladies), but I've searched high and low and I cannot determine the difference between AUTOPATCHER FULL and AUTOPATCHER CORE. I'm going to assume they are the same. In other words:

AUTOPATCHER CORE = AUTOPATCHER FULL

...

and

...

AUTOPATCHER ADD-ONS = AUTOPATCHER UPDATES

While confusing at first, I really *don't care* what they're called, who they're called, or what in the heck they do. The problem is -- and I hope you understand this is positive criticism and not meant to detract from your excellent work -- no one has any idea of what this new 5.6 architecture brings.

Please, make me an idiot and point me to a page, a document, a read-me -- heck, ANYTHING -- which says what the new autopatcher architecture is based around versus the old. No place can I find UPDATES are now ADD-ONS, and the FULL is really now called the CORE. Is it? Really? Where is this spelled out? Not everyone has hours per day to scour the forums for obscure posts like this one to explain the difference.

MAKE IT A FREAKIN STICKY! :shiftyninja:

Switching terms in the middle of a release major (5.x) and not giving people ideas of what this means is a recipe for disaster and realistically, making alternatives to AP look good. And I work in the business, and I know what I'm talking about.

YOU HAVE TO COMMUNICATE TO YOUR customers (even if they're *non-paying* customers) what you are doing or plan on being dismissed as 'amatuer'. I don't care how many HUNDREDS to THOUSANDS of man hours you've put into your project ... if you don't communicate clearly what you're doing then many people (read: almost all) will get frustrated with your efforts and very well may move onto something else.

Sorry for the rant. Excellent product, poor communication.

Flame away.

updating the website and providing such info is on the todo list, right now i'm working on updating the documentation so the other team members can start using our new install script (i'm the only person in the entire world who has the script, and i'm the only person who knows how to use it), and so translators can start working on their new releases (i've also got to create new translation packs). then there's updating info on the website including re-designing content layout, and finishing off some work to do with QMUP releases.

it's a lot to do when your the only one doing it, for the moment though your going to have to make do with searching for the answer or asking for it as you have (preferably without a rant attached ;))

anyway, full & lite releases have been replaced with core + extras addon pack

update releases are still as they were, there were none this time because of the huge changes we've gone through, everyone needs to replace older releases witht he new core releases.

then theres some additional new addon packs - xp mce2005, xp wmp10, dx.

you may get confused because the vista and x64 releases are currently still using the term 'full', they will probably start using the new term 'core' starting with the june releases.

Not intend to be insulting but u have to be like 5 years old not to understand difference between core and full. Only thing i didnt understand is what the hack is MCE update, and i got answer to that by googling 1 min, and also later by reading some topic here where someone asked it.

I am sure that if they were making freaking amount of money out of AP, they would hire a whole bunch of lowpaid guys and students to do small and insignificant, but time consuming stuff for them, but as this is not the case, i think yuo need a change of perspective or lences you use to lok upon this project.

Instead of flaming why not say: I see you are overwhelmed, I want to help,or I will help you communicate with AP users beacuse i have experiance in this due to my work.

Wouldnt that be more constructive then just saying , do this, do that... ?

Sorry but you sound as someone who's spoiled.. no matter how old you are, and what you do in life.

In regard to your profecies of disaster if they dont make changes fast.. i disagree. Microsoft has terrible PR and even worst managment... e.g. look at this SP3 jerking off of customers , or Vista release timeframe jerking before.. and did they go puff? No they didnt beacuse ppl want and need Windows, and Microsoft. In same way ppl want and need AP, and they have proved that here on forum and by downloading counter times and times again.

Flame off ^^

Words mean things. Core is core files. Things you can add to those are add-ons.

There aren't any updates yet, but I imagine that when there are they'll be called updates.

YOU HAVE TO COMMUNICATE TO YOUR customers (even if they're *non-paying* customers)

Customer. Noun. "Someone who pays for goods or services."

Again, words mean things.

I Like autopatcher n all but the new 5.6 I was disapointed to see that most of the tweaks that I use all the time in windows were gone. I hope this will be rectified some time.

Back on topic. I agree with the first post. I would rather have a full release instead of a core release with some parts in there.

@steve30x, huh, all tweaks are still there as in v5.1, and in fact i think i added at least one to the win 2k3 release...

Sorry but im just telling what I see in there. I get 1 tweak in the registry tweaks , I see 10 tweaks in the functionality tweaks , I see 2 security tweaks and I only see 1 speed tweak. In version 5.1 of autopatcher I used to see a whole lot more tweaks. This may be a bad download or something but thats all the tweaks I see in there.

It's free.. no one cares if ur happy or not.

Core = core

Add-ons = add-ons for core

I am guessing but that seems the most logical explanation.

As always, good job Autopatcher guys :)

Im just reporting what I see and I have a right to my opinion. If I was the programmer of this software I know I would care if somebody was disapointed with it. Or are you some kind of activist against people that are disapointed with Autopachcer?

Anyway Ive reloaded V5.1 and there is a big difference to what I see. I no longer see the powertoys , wallpaper options as well as the other windows addons that was in V5.1, I no longer have the appearance tweaks and almost all of the functionality tweaks are gone except for the ad notepad and activate copy and move functions.

For now I will use v 5.1 to use the tweaks. Still I thank you for your good work.

@steve30x, the powertoys and wallpapers and stuff were move to the 'extras' addon pack.

as for the tweaks, well looking at the operating system dependencies of the copies in the latest release, all speed tweaks except one required XP_X86. the one that doesn't require any specific OS is the IE speed tweak. perhaps you don't have a 32-bit copy of windows xp, or system detection isn't working for you...

Im using Windows XP pro 32bit. Maybe you are right and the system detection isnt working for me. Still theres no harm done. I can use the tweaks through v5.1.

@steve30x, could you please do these three things for me

1) got to C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\modules\tweaks\speed and verify there is more than one module there

2) run autopatcher, and tell me whether it reports that its an official release or not

3) got to C:\WINDOWS, and attach autopatcher.log here

Ok give me about 5 minutes. I need to uninstall version 5.1 and reinstall v5.6

you could always install to a different folder and have both installed at the same time...

Ok I have that done. Im not used to my new machine yet. The thing is faster than im used to.

1) theres just one module named SpeedUpIE_x86_enu.apm and a folder named SpeedUpIE_x86_files

2) it reports to be an official release

3) log file attached

autopatcher.txt

ah...

well if you've only got one speed tweak module rather than eight, that explains why only one is appearing for you in the selection window, because the log file looks fine.

the fact that autopatcher is reporting the release as official though is odd... :s

anyway, delete the v5.6 release and reinstall it and then check #1 again.

That was from a fresh install of autopatcher. There was just the one module from a fresh install.

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
