This is Session 2 of Neowin Mafia. Below is some information for reference.

The rules, guideline and game style will resemble the trial game, the link to that discussion topic is here. There have been various changes made to this session. Thanks to Lt-DavidW for starting the game last session. Game source wikiHow.

Updates

3. The game has ended, the remaining Townspeople have eliminated the Mafia. Spreadsheet used in this game can be found near the end of the topic. Thank you for those who have participated.

2. Registration has ended. The game has begun. Thank you for joining.

1. Notes/Improvement 4 has been confirmed.

Notes/Improvements

1. Those who are interested will join on a first come first serve basis. Winners of the previous session (those who remained alive in the end) will have priority.

2. Due to the previous session of having members not active throughout the game, voting and participation will be essential to ensure your survival. Players will unfortunately be eliminated if they missed two consecutive voting sessions. If you have doubts regarding your participation please reconsider about joining the game.

3. News clippings or events offered in the previous session will not be as thoroughly expressed in this session. The game will unfortunately just be straightforward.

4. I have considered to give 4 Townspeople the knowledge of the other three also being Townspeople. This ensures a decent amount of communication between regular members. This raises a strong aspect of the game that could be of great benefit to the progression of the voting sessions.

The Rules

Once we have filled the players list, the moderator will again randomly assign people to different characters. There are four types of characters: Mafia (4), Sheriff (1), Doctor (1), and Townspeople (14).

1. The game is played as a series of 'Day' and 'Night' Cycles. Please follow the role you have been assigned to and closely follow the progression of the cycles and vote accordingly to ensure your survival.

2. The game ends when either a) all Mafia have been eliminated and or b) the number of Mafia members and Townspeople are equal (Mafia having control of town votes).

The role of any player will not be publicly announced.

Night Cycle

First round only. The moderator will Private Message (PM) randomly assigned Mafia members (4) and inform them of the other three members who they will collaborate with.

1. The Mafia will collaborate personally though PM and decide which player they would like to kill. The target will be submitted to the moderator before the Night Cycle ends.

2. The Doctor will submit through PM whom he believes he needs to save.

Should the Doctor correctly choose the Mafia's victim, the victim will not be killed and remain in the game.

3. The Sheriff will submit through PM whom he suspects of being Mafia.

The moderator will either confirm or deny through PM whether or not the Sheriff's suspect is indeed Mafia or not. If the Sheriff is right then that Mafia member is jailed and out of the game. If he is wrong then at least the Sheriff knows that that person is not a Mafia member.

The night cycle will not be made public as it is "behind the scenes". At the end of the night cycle, the Morning News will inform all players of arrests, and deaths or attempted murders (if saved by the Doctor) that occurred in the cycle.

Day Cycle

This is where the game gets really interesting and everyone is involved.

Anyone who has died or been arrested should not communicate with the remaining players.

Everyone can discuss in this thread anything about what has happened. People can admit to their characters or even lie about who they are (but be careful or you may get eliminated in the next cycle). You can also accuse and or defend who you like.

Please do not spoil the game by copy and pasting PM or screenshots into this thread. Only talk about your suspicions and accuse with literal evidence or the game could be spoiled for all.

1. All players, including Mafias, Sheriff and Doctor, will be subjected to one vote to eliminate one of the remaining players whom they suspect as being guilty. The player with the most votes will be out of the game.

The member that has been eliminated in the Day Cycle will be announced in the Evening News, and their identity be revealed.

The day and night cycles will continue until the game ends, again, either a) all Mafia have been eliminated and or b) the number of Mafia members and Townspeople are equal (Mafia having control of town votes).

Cycle Time

Night Cycle votes end/Morning News/Town votes begin: 12:00 EST/16:00 UTC

Town votes end/Evening News/Night Cycle votes begin: 00:00 EST/04:00 UTC

Wow, filling up fast! I'm really excited to be playing!

After reading through all of the last thread, it seems that people didn't discuss much on the forum. Was a lot of discussion done via PM?

In the physical version of the game, discussion takes place in front of everyone else, so I'd like to see more speculation and discussion out in the open in the thread, if possible. Reading through the last game, I wasn't sure how anyone decided who to accuse...

Just a quick update, half of the slots have been filled. I recall seeing a large number of members in the previous game say they want to get back in. Be quick though, filling up fast indeed.

However question follows, is that would it be more accessible or convenient if the hours were shifted 3 hours either way? Please post if anyone rejects this suggestion.

By the way I have no idea how to convert to BST, is BST merely +1 to UTC?

Yes, BST is simply UTC plus one hour's worth of British Summer Time added on. But is GMT BST or UTC? Hmm...

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
    • CPPC states can also be messed around with in most UEFI settings but aren't as robust as the ones that the Windows Scheduler can provide! Make sure you look into what your motherboard also has before customizing for the Windows Scheduler.
