Sorry I thought there weren't enough appeal or interest in the quick game of Mafia so I just let it go.

The first game ended with 10 members left and the Mafia have lost all their members.

Although I don't think the Gunner/Zombie would work out right, I think you should try to run the rules and see how effective it is. Meanwhile I will try to conceptualize, and with the coding of lylesback2, produce a PHP voting system for future Mafia games.

Yeah, I'm not convinced of the necessity of the gunner and/or zombie, I really like the rest of the rules. I think it should be a lot of fun.

However, I think we've noticed that the "fun-factor" is much more about the amount of participation among those playing than the rules of the game.

One thing I might like to see implemented is Mafia "recruitment". If a Mafia member becomes "inactive" or otherwise quits the game, the Mafia can choose to attempt to recruit a townsperson to take their place. The townsperson could then choose to become Mafia or out the player who contacted them as Mafia. The townspeople could then choose to believe the outing or not.

Anyway, I'll try to play again - this is so much fun!

+1 on this

and i'll definately be up for the next game

hanvt had a chance to read those rules yet because ive got some pretty harsh exams tomorrow

but ill get back on it tomorrow evening

If the next game goes as I am hearing it will then I TOTALLY want to be in!!! Sounds totally sweet!

I can't say very much.. since i don't know the details.. but Season 2 didn't finish, and may re-start a quick season 2 over again.

Season 3 is in the works..

As some of you have requested, here is the spreadsheet used in this game.

http://www.jtothey.com/public/neowin%20mafia%202.html

Red members are Mafia,

Purple is the Doctor,

Blue is the Sheriff,

Green is the Alliance.

Days progress from right to left, the day listed at the top, first being the Night Cycle then the Day cycle when everyone votes. Death sorted from bottom up, vote percentages listed on the bottom. Hope you guys can read it.

--------------

Season 3 is perhaps done by Lt-DavidW for the moment, and a voting system is in the works by me and lylesback2? Maybe this will be used for the Season after 3 depending on progress.

Yeah, and I think we can all thank reiverjohn for most of that. That really was an amazing show of detective work and team-building. WTG!

lol thanks ! but (a) i was wrong about shof. i didnt think he was mafia and was surprised to see him turn out to be. and (b) i very nearly asked people to vote against someone who was innocent--the sherriff in fact ! luckily i came round to my senses in time.

but the point here really is to get the pms going, get in touch with people and test them out, dont be silent, get involved in the game. its a treacherous sort of thing, this game, but it can be quite fun. :D

If a townsperson were to accept recruitment, it is only fair that they officially change team. This means that the moderator would confirm the recruitment and change of team with the recruit and all Mafia members (not townspeople obviously). This means that if the recruit is simply trying to infiltrate the Mafia to pass on info. to the townspeople, then the recruit is actually cheating himself as he is officially part of the Mafia team.

Otherwise it would be too easy for the recruit to pick and choose his side.

And what if the Mafia unknowingly recruit a Sheriff or Doctor? What then?

I think that makes sense. I think that just having the idea of recruitment out there adds another level of deception, whether it actually happens or not.

If the Mafia recruit a Sheriff or Doctor then they have either gotten very lucky or have worked very hard and done their homework! It wouldn't be too different from them offing the doctor or sheriff, and makes the importance of player participation that much more integral.

Actually, I was thinking more about the consequences of a doctor breaking the Hippocratic Oath to murder civilians, and a Sheriff turning to the dark side. Do we really want to witness this?

lt dave, i think we have already witnessed a lot of treachery. the game seems made for it. why not let it be 'anything goes' as it already seems to be ?

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
