Fullscreen cmd.exe in Vista Ultimate

Everytime I try Alt+Enter a message comes up saying "This system does not support fullscreen mode". Anyway to run cmd.exe in full screen?

alt+enter? That doesn't do anything at all for me.

I'm not aware of any fullscreen mode. You can of course just maximize or resize the window (and use "mode 120" and such to make it wider).

what video drivers do you have??

the Alt+Enter works fine on my nvidia ti4600 (ms drivers) system, but not on my nvidia 6600gt system.

try other versions of your video drivers (if you can)

I'm going to go out on a limb and blame graphics drivers. They're usually at fault for everything else.

Alt-enter doesn't do anything for me on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 with the latest Catalyst drivers and a Radeon X1300 Pro. I don't have a widescreen display (...yet)

Nope. 1280x1024x85Hz (CRT).

I have Aero enabled.

I believe this is a limitation of the new WDDM drivers. No hardware fullscreen mode.

On 32-bit systems it might still work if you have a non-WDDM driver, or maybe if you have the DWM disabled.

Im running a radeon x1600 pro with the latest drivers from Ati's site. Aero enabled. Running at 1024x786 and running a normal monitor 17" CRT.

I can get cmd.exe in full screen on my copy of Vista x64 by hitting alt+enter.

It won't goto fullscreen if your running Aero... If you use Classic or a non-Aero theme, it works in fullscreen.

Someone will (most likely) correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding...

a display mode switch will be required to create a full screen CMD window, since in essence CMD windows will operate in a CGA or maybe EGA mode. If the driver cannot interpolate the mode switch properly, then you will get a CMD window that does not fill the screen.

This is not a problem though, since the CMD window is mostly a command prompt virtualized into an on-screen window by the kernel.
