It's incredible. More people care about the interface than the browser's actual performance and features. No wonder Vista's a success among some of us :p

Well the UI's really what draws you in, THEN you get bombarded by popups and slow loading pages. =)

You guys really think Microsoft will focus on the UI in IE8? I'm a fan of customizability, and IE7 doesn't offer that, but the UI is one of the last things that I care about in the next version. I'd rather they speed it up even more, add a download manager and of course improve standards support. Whether I can have my refresh button on the right or below the address bar isn't much of a big deal to me.

Given a study found 90% of XP users never bother changing the default blue appearance, 5% will try the other looks included ie Silver and 5% will actually look for a way to change the overall appearance (Window Blinds for example) I don't think MS prioritize cosmetics. I'd like it if they did but I think they have every reason to not when I heard that.

Seadragon is an incubation project resulting from the acquisition of Seadragon Software in February. Its aim is nothing less than to change the way we use screens, from wall-sized displays to mobile devices, so that visual information can be smoothly browsed regardless of the amount of data involved or the bandwidth of the network.

If this sounds a little vague, consider the following four "promises" of Seadragon:

Speed of navigation is independent of the size or number of objects.

Performance depends only on the ratio of bandwidth to pixels on the screen.

Transitions are smooth as butter.

Scaling is near perfect and rapid for screens of any resolution.

The Seadragon team is currently tuning its DirectX implementation, making the most of the new Windows Media Photo format, and cranking on the Photosynth Technology Preview.

IE7 is a POS in my opinion. So, hopefully IE8 returns to a more sane/better UI and sports serious speed upgrades. If not, then I'm sticking with FF.

Good for you. I'm glad you love Internet Explorer, but if you want effective addons like ad filtering (for free) and a customizable interface then Firefox is a better choice.

IE7 has a bunch of different free ad-filtering add-ons.

Its not official that it will be released yet, as in a Microsoft representative officially stating so. Therefore, there is no date.

i'm on minefield since bon echo branched. the only new good thing in ff3 is a new render engine (which is still very buggy, but very promising). no more positive changes. places makes ff much MUCH slower.
