Police raid three football clubs

Police have raided three football clubs as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in football.

Newcastle United is believed to be one of the clubs raided but the other clubs involved have yet to be named.

The operation is not connected to Lord Stevens' ongoing Quest inquiry into the Premiership and was "totally independent", police said.

Search warrants were executed on the club premises and two homes between 0730 and 0900 BST.

A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that search warrants were served at three football clubs and the homes of two individuals in connection with corruption in football and its impact on owners and shareholders."

A Northumbria Police spokesman said they were aware that "an operation" had been carried out by their London colleagues at St James' Park, the home of Newcastle United.

Naughty Newcastle, I wonder who the other clubs are :)

WEEEEEEE When there is something dodgy, always mention Portsmouth and harry. Slighty disapointed that Bolton and Sam aren't mentioned.

Maybe they have other evidence that doesn't prove that Bolton did anything wrong...

Newcastle are well dodgy...today's example:

Newcastle have made an audacious enquiry for Fifa World Player of the Year Ronaldinho - and were quoted a price of ?58 million.

During talks over the availability of Barcelona's players - Newcastle have been linked with Edmilson and Eidur Gudjohnsen - the Brazilian's name was raised, but the price may be too much, even for Newcastle's new owner, billionaire Mike Ashley.

It is not the first time Newcastle have shown interest in Ronaldinho, four years ago they enquired when he was at Paris St-Germain.

Sam Allardyce, the Newcastle manager, has signed Joey Barton, David Rozehnal, Geremi and Mark Viduka, but Ashley wants a world-renowed name to signal his intent following his ?130m takeover at St James's Park.

Who Mandaric? :p

There is no details over yet, what the hell is going on.

Again the Premierleague would have to tred very carefully at this very moment in time. If they go in heavy handed against these clubs, they will make a huge mistake compared to the West Ham stuff.
