E6600,E6750 and Q6600,E6700 differences

Recommended Posts

alrighty, so ive been looking over some LGA 775 cpus and i was a bit confused when i started comparing side by side over at newegg...heres what i was looking at

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompa...029&bop=And

why is it that the 6750 cost less then the 6600 has a higher FSB and clock speed....

and also why is the Q6600 cheaper then the E6700 if the quad is, well quad, higher L1 cache, and its L2 isnt shared unlike the 6700...

6750 is cheaper because of the recent price cut. before the price cut the 6600 was the most popular proccessor (best bang for your buck) but now that the price cut happened, everyone has heard how great the E6600 is and started buying it like crazy. so newegg increased the price to get proffit

as for the Q6600 being cheaper, the E6700 has more GHz and is dual core. quad isn't always better. the E6700 does better at gaming than the Q6600 does, so there's still a good demand for those. the quad is only better with multi-threaded applications (video editing, encoding / decoding, etc.)

just get the Q6600, they can be overclocked way above any of the other chips you mention.

Uh....not quite buddy.

As for the pricing and Newegg, PermaSt0ne's kind of correct...although it's more like simple supply and demand and good business practice.

I just upgraded to a 6750. Really hard to pass up considering it was only $219 CAN. Since hardly anything currently needs a Quad, I didn't see the point in buying one yet. I'm waiting for the Penryn CPUs before going Quad.

okay so that shined tons of light on that pricing...now i was gonna build my next system and purchase the Q6600, im hoping it to last me for the next 3-4 years...i don't do hardcore gaming, im a well rounded user...i do light music producing, VERY light gaming, heavy on entertainment, graphic designing, web development, etc...
