[Official] Doctor Who Thread

I can't wait for the haters to come in here and comment :p

No hater here. I'm actually welcoming this incarnation of the Doctor. I never grew to really like Smith, however I still believe this has to do with the material he was given and not the portrayal of the character itself. I still think someone needed to go and that person WASN'T Smith

William Hartnell in 'The Power of the Daleks ' I saw in around 1975/1976 when I was a small boy, that was great, you could see the electric rails the Daleks ran upon.

He is my second favourite.

Of course the best and always the best, why didn't he come back as he is miles better than everyone.

Tom Baker

I tried to get back into Dr. Who, but, they introduced Cathorin Tate, I was waiting for her to take the ######, so could not take Dr. Who seriously anymore.

Which is a shame because she certainly grew into the role.

I like it, he kind of reminds me of an older DT with a hint of Tom Baker as well - Im sure the Dr will feel very comfortable in his new body.  It's going to be interesting to see the Dr experience age again, I think he will notice more respect from others though as he doesn't look such a young man.  If done right, I think this could really work well - almost a Dr that is happy to be a middle aged man again because he has come to terms with himself.  I'm hoping for some rather deep writting here.

It will be interesting to see how he carries himself as the Doctor, as we have seen in the past several actors have played the Doctor rather differently than they play other characters. I am excited to see how he does and i am rather happy to see a Older Darker Doctor coming along. Even if he plays the Doctor like he character in the Fires of Pompeii it will be amazing.

Must admit, as much as I like the choice - I don't like the fact he has been in the show before.

Well... we will see... if he can pull off a middle of David and Matt (a little more serious/little drama like David and a little less of craziness of Matt with sometimes was a little stupid for what the character is) will be the perfect doctor for every current audience of Dr Who Fans

If he can pull that off he might just definitely be the perfect Doctor. However, that's gonna be one more feat to accomplish that.

Famed novelist Neil Gaiman (American Gods, The Ocean at the End of the Lane: A Novel), writer of past Doctor Who episodes such as "The Doctor's Wife" and "Nightmare in Silver" has revealed on tumblr that a black actor was offered the role to be the next Doctor but turned the role down for unspecified reasons. When asked to disclose the name of the actor, Gaiman declined to provide any further information. Prior to Peter Capaldi being confirmed as the 12th doctor, actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men, Serenity) and David Harewood (Homeland) were reportedly in the running.

Would be cool to hear a bit of an explanation about why the regeneration process can result in a body that is older than the one you currently have.  I dont mean that in a bad way, would be nice to have a reason though.

Im looking forward to a new Dr, as much as I respect MS I still miss DT and hope PC can extend the story.

It's good to see an older actor in the role, Eccleston, Tennant and Smith were exceptions to the "rule" basically, the Doctor has always been older.

Ecclestone was 40 when he played The Doctor, by comparison, Peter Davison was 29, the second youngest actor to play The Doctor only beaten off the top spot by Matt Smith.

True but we dont know how old the previous incarnation was before regenerating into him.  This time we are making quite a big jump so it would be nice to hear some kind of query from Clara.

She'll probably say something when he regens like "your older?" and then he might explain

    • It's time to say goodbye to Edge and switch back to Firefox. There's no way to disable the ugly rounded corners that appear everywhere. Not even on the page frame. No one uses screens with rounded corners, you idiots.
    • Being on Github makes it more trustable since I can see the code at any point.
    • Gen Atlas is the next game from Shadow of the Colossus creator, this time with giant robots by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The mind behind widely well-received games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, showed up at Summer Game Fest today, and that was to reveal his latest project. Being developed by genDESIGN, Gen Atlas is incoming with what looks to be plenty of mech and robot action. Watch the reveal trailer, which makes not much sense, above. The game will have players waking up on an abandoned planet where deserted facilities and grand designs from the original creators remain. Soon, they will stumble upon a colossal robot, from which players gain access to the power to change the world. "Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more," adds the studio. The gameplay snippets seen in the trailer show the player character climbing giant robots (as expected from the creator), while also controlling these titans somehow as well. This is a fully single-player open-world adventure. “The team and I are grateful to all the fans who’ve been eager to learn more about our game,” says Fumito Ueda, CEO and creative director of genDESIGN. “Their passion and enthusiasm has always motivated and inspired us. We hope to share an experience that inspires moments of quiet wonder and discovery.” Before gaining the name Gen Atlas, Ueda first announced this project back in 2024 with the codename Project Robot. Interestingly, this will be a project being funded and published by Epic Games, which should mean that a Steam release is out of the question. Gen Atlas will be releasing on Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
