I'm sorry Mr. Gamer! the fact that you know how to play every game on earth doesn't newcomers should know that "by default". when you design a game you most create the game with every level of the food chain in mind, that's why you have different levels of difficulty and all that crap.

Easy Spartan! I'm far from a gamer, I'm just a casual player. And it's ok for me or anyone else to have an opinion on this. My comments won't keep people away from it, there's nothing to worry about. I agree with you, newcomers to the game should be shown the basic workings. I'm not debating that. Hell, I haven't played Halo since the initial release on Xbox, I'm a newcomer myself. My comments were such that the game just didn't pull me in during my initial run of it. I'll go back to it tonight and see how it goes but I can easily see myself sticking with only MP.

Game on! :)

I'm not trying to change your mind buddy... I'm just pointing out things on a general level, you know how people around here love to twist other people words and that's why I was trying to set the record strait as to why the first chapter is not as challenging as many would have expected.

after all we're on the same side of the boat...

enjoy your MP tonight!

First level was ok. I think the game really becomes fun when you get your hands on some vehicles and the levels open up later on. If I was you I'd stick to it until then at least.

I also found in some places, just as with other halos, if you really try you can force vehicles into buildings where your probably shouldn't have them by squeezing through door ways. Leads to some very sad covenant when your driving down a narrow corridoor with a gunner behind you.

OK, I know I said I wasn't going to respond until I beat the game, but some of you I strongly disagree with...

The first level is just a training level? Are we talking about the entire first mission where you have to rescue the guys? Because I don't really consider the cheap 10 snipers in a row trick "easing" gamers in. I'm on the second level now (on the hardcore mode, or whatever it's called, from the advice of others), and it's far easier than the first mission so far. That's not "easing" players in.

Sorry, but while the campaign isn't bad so far (again: so far; and I'm not saying it's bad, not saying it's great), but it suffers from the same problem of the other two Halo games -- it seems like it's about 5 years behind where it should be, similar to Quake 4 or Unreal II (both games that I liked, so don't think I'm slamming Halo 3 here). The level design still needs work, and it just gives you what you except from a shooter 5 years ago.

The graphics need work, to be blunt. I always thought they looked pretty good, but this being a AAA title, in the second year of the 360's lifespan, I expected better. It doesn't even hold a candle to Bioshock, Gears of War, or even the GRAW games. It's not horrible, but it just isn't good. It really does look Halo 2.5, honestly.

The multiplayer's really fun if you're looking for deathmatch (or slayer, whatever you want to call it). The team-based stuff like Capture the Flag still suffer, IMO, because they still play like deathmatch. Halo's a fun deathmatch game, but I prefer team-based, myself. Still a good multiplayer component, however.

That said, SO FAR, I'd give it a 4/5 score. Like I said, it's not bad, but let's not make things up about the game. It doesn't feel unique in any way, or even like an evolution in the Halo gameplay in any way. It's definitely the best game so far in the Halo series, IMO. It's more fun than the first two because the level design -- while still bad -- has improved a bit.

(AGAIN: SO FAR. I'm reserving judgment for until I beat the game, which may be a while due to exams and track.)

I have questions.

1. Why is it when I am playing the game I am seeing the game in the middle half of the screen and not the full half (I am using HDMI)?

2. In Halo 3 why am I (1st player) the Elite instead 2nd player is MC?

3. I love this game. :D

1. are you playing with otgher people on the same tv cause that happens with everybody, no widescreen support for two people multiplayer, it's stupid.

2. Yeah i was confused about that too, my buddy and i were playing he was player 2 and was like... why am i master cheif? (i didn't care cause i LOOVVVVVVEEEEE the arbiter)

3. me too :)

Quick question, guys: if you go to the campaign screen (as only one player, and you're still on a campaign), can you change the current mission difficulty setting to "legendary" or "normal" if you're on "heroic" at the moment? Will it overwrite current saves?

1. are you playing with otgher people on the same tv cause that happens with everybody, no widescreen support for two people multiplayer, it's stupid.

Actually, it's not stupid. It's much better than having full widescreen when you're playing two players. Have you ever played Halo 2 widscreen split horizontally? You can't see anything above or below you, it was a mess. This way it's much clearer and not 'out of view'.

You will lose your checkpoints at what Mission you're currently on, but you won't lose your progress in the whole campaign. So it's best to switch after completing a mission (when you get the blue Halo loading screen).

Have yet to play the game, but Joystiq looked into it and wallah:

Bungie may have gotten this one right after all

...

But now you cant see anything at all because the screen is too small :s

next time lets try to play a more than 1 chapter before you say the game is a let down.

According to my achivements, I've just passed level 4, I'm not seeing the SP improving unfortunately. It still feels like a CC console shooter. :(

Well I'm just going by the fun we had in the beta :p

Aye, well we need to get some forge matches this weekend. I was giggling like an idiot when I dropped a Warthog on someones head, accidently, last night. :D

I think I'm totally missing the logic here. By having the wider screen you wouldn't really have to change ANYTHING in relation to the amount you can see vertically, all it would mean is you can see more to the left and right.

using the link posted a few posts ago: http://xbox360.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/halo...6-9-hdtv-edges/

The 2nd pic shows how the bottom two players have the same vertical draw as the guy on the top, except he gets some extra viewing to the left and right.

Awesome, thanks :)

While I don't need anyone to give me an explanation that "Chapter 1 is just a training level", I can say without equivocation that the first "chapter" of BioShock did not feel this way. I kind of laughed at the beginning of H3 when the guy tells you to look up then look down. I mean, come on, we are way passed that point in games. And maybe the comparison of BioShock to Halo 3 is not fair but I digress.

Uh, that's so you don't have to go into preferences and select "Invert Y Axis" like I have to do in Bioshock. I think this is a clever way to set that setting.

Awesome, thanks :)

Yep, it is nice to know. I think I may be using this at some point.

I have to admit, things have picked up since Chapter 1, they have. I am enjoying it more than I was, and I am only on Chapter 2.

With that said, I still think the overwhelming amount of hype and press is all because of the quality of MP, and not the SP campaign. I still feel the SP is very good at best, but nowhere near great.

You really must keep in mind I come from a PC background, and First Person Shooters are BY FAR my favorite genre, so I am very critical of them.

You also must keep in mind I never really thought Halo SP was anything special.

I also never really cared much about story. I know that may be a sin to say about gaming, but honestly it is true. I watch cut scenes most of the time, I just do not pay much attention to them. If I want a good story, I will read a book. If I want to shoot things and be entertained, I play games, so that is why story has never been high on my list for games actually.

I asked this earlier but got no response. How can I get the ads on my account? I am almost 20 and created the account when I was 18. I am confused and I would like to know whats going on. Thanks!

i dont know but could you just make a 2nd account just for dloading? i did that to get the US/UK GoW stuff.

1st time in the history that people WANT to get ads rather than avoid them. haha.

    • Simple answer is yes, you will still get the Windows updates and as long as browser is up to date, you will be good. Only thing secure boot does is protect you against boot level threats and make it harder to install other OS's. I've been looking into this pretty thoroughly lately myself as wifes computer has secure boot disabled plus my other, older computers that run Linux, don't have secure boot enabled. Have seen all kinds of questions about this on the Linux Mint and MX Linux forums. Just don't suddenly enable secure boot now.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
