The abandoned monkey who has found love with a pigeon

They're an odd couple in every sense but a monkey and a pigeon have become inseparable at an animal sanctuary in China.

The 12-week-old macaque - who was abandoned by his mother - was close to death when it was rescued on Neilingding Island, in Goangdong Province.

After being taken to an animal hospital his health began to improve but he seemed spiritless - until he developed a friendship with a white pigeon.

The macaque nestles his head against his feathered friend

The blossoming relationship helped to revive the macaque who has developed a new lease of life, say staff at the sanctuary.

Now the unlikely duo are never far from each other's side, but they aren't the only ones to strike up an unusual friendship.

Earlier this year a pig adopted a tiger cub and raised him along with her piglets because his mother couldn't feed him.

And in 2005 a baby dear named Mi-Lu befriended lurcher Geoffrey at the Knowsley Animal Park in Merseyside after she was rejected by her mother.

Captain Planet approves of this news.

Hahahaha! Thats great! Not sure anyone under the age of 22 will understand that though :D

This is really sweet!

I had something like this happen once with my old two dogs. There was a baby bird which fell out of its nest, but survived by landing on some soft ground in our garden. We didnt notice until we went outside and saw that the female dog was trying to get to the bird (she kills anything smaller than her without a second thought).

However in this case, my male dog had for some reason taken a liking to the bird and was growling at her as she walked around. Although she was the more dominent of the two, she still was quite unsure about going to close.

We picked the bird up and took care of it for a number of days. The whole time, my dog would sit there watching us with hawk like eyes. We would put the bird with him in a safe place and he would sit there licking it clean and then it would fall asleep on him.

Unfortunatly we had to kill the bird in the end, when the mother didnt come back for it. Its wings didnt grow properly and we wouldnt have been able to teach it to fly, which wouldnt have ben good ffor the bird.

My dog pinned for days after that :(, but soon got over it. Unfortunatly my dog has been put down since then himself, because his heart enlarged and started to cause breathing problems for him.
