fuBar.
Hello, I am new to the Mac OS X and I have a question that I need to be answered. How can I change my 'computer' name? For example, my account is "John Smith", how can I change that to something else? PS: I am not talking about networking/sharing... thanks.
the evn show
You can change the long name "John Smith" to something else in the Accounts preferences panel. Changing the short name is more involved.
allannyholm
If you need to change the "house"-name(your home folder) then use this little app. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16620 It should make things a little easier than what Apple suggests. I have not tried this particular app myself, but I doubt it will cause damage to your computer. If you have an external harddrive, then take a backup of your home folder before you proceed with doing anything at all. If it's the long name as the evn show suggests then just follow the procedure that he or she talks about.
